I'd like a mobile guy to be the backup. A mobile QB is harder to stop when he comes in after the starting QB goes down because most teams really can't prepare for one on the fly.

All those guys are essentially Henne, but the blowhards here would never drop their pitchforks long enough to admit it.

While I don't consider myself a blowhard, and don't have a pitchfork, I'll say it.

 

Henne is terrible.  I'd upgrade with McCown, Hill, or Davis.  Jeez, I'd even take a look at Vick.  No thanks to Cutler if released.

I know. It's like people have completely forgotten what it's like when Henne is on the field.

 

About the only positives about Henne is that he is a veteran with starting QB experience and he doesn't cause any problems whatsoever on or off the field. He also seems pretty tough because he takes a beating out there and doesn't seem to get hurt.

 

Maybe he also helps Bortles in the film room and with some of the defenses he faces, but that's really about it.

 

Henne is what he is and that is what we have seen in the games he has started for the Jags.

I want to propose an option that I kind of like and see if anybody is on my side. In my proposal, I will name a specific name. Don't follow the name, follow the concept. I like and agree with Jagwired's opinion about having a mobile backup. They are hard to plan for, and extremely hard to plan for on the fly in-game. Personally, as a sideline presence and whatnot, I kind of like Henne. He seems to be a quality person with a staying power in the league. OK. Here is the proposal. Keep Henne as a continued veteran presence, mentor, and quality person on the sideline to continue to guide and help the other players. Now here is the name. Blake Sims. He is a prospect that should be around in the later rounds, is mobile, and is a semi-decent passer. He can create on the run, is evasive and can extend plays and has enough arm strength that he could still prevent teams from just stacking the box.

He'd basically be the 3rd string, and yes more of a coach than a player option. He'd be serving the same role as Jason Giambi has been for the Cleveland Indians. Used only in the most extreme circumstances, just pretty much there as a veteran presence.

 

I'm saying after the next season, Bortles would be in his 3rd year, Sims in his 2nd, let Henne walk and there we go.
