Gregory, Ray, Fowler?

No, I misread and was talking about Flowers (Arkansas.)  Too bad that wasn't the topic.  LOL...

Fowler I'd play at OLB.  I'd rush him from there, maybe move him around.  I'd like to see him develop as an OLB in the NFL.  I wouldn't like him at RDE, and wouldn't draft him that high.  (Same with Flowers.)

Of the players listed I would probably lean towards Ray.  I am a production guy.  I want to see who actually brought home the groceries.  Also, watch out for Beasley if he blows it up this week.

Production guy huh? Didn't Michael Sam lead the SEC in sacks last year and win defensive player of the year? So you want him?

IMO Fowler will be a good Leo.  Gregory will be good down the line, but needs to add some bulk on his frame.  No to Ray.

At this point I'd be happy if they traded down and selected Ray or Beasley as their LEO.  Don't see either of them going top 10.   I'd be happy with Maxx Williams too.  Leonard Williams seems to be the elite prospect this draft.  But besides him, I'm not seeing the value of being at the top of the draft.

Funny, I don't remember advocating that we draft Michael Sam. Obviously there is a marriage between both production and skill set when making the production to the next level.  In the case of Michael Sam you had a guy who ran 4.9, jumped 26 inches and when you put on the tape, didn't really have any innate pass rush skills but was able to take a good first step and wipe away the hands of college tackles.

That being said, If you have a guy who is good athletically but doesn't demonstrate the ability to make plays consistently in game situations then that doesn't help either.  A height weight speed candidate that can't do it or an under athletic try hard guy doesn't matter.  The point is to find guys who can actually PRODUCE at the next level, and for my money when you're talking about pass rushers most of the guys that are elite in our league today began demonstrating that with both measurable athleticism and on field production at the college level.

Corey Moore (VT) had one of the most electrifying and productive years of any collegiate pass rusher, too.

It doesn't always translate, particularly for the smaller guys.

Excuse my ignorance, but can someone clue me in on why Fowler has been rocketing up boards lately?

What's changed?  Did he announce late?

I realize he's a nice prospect, but why wasn't he regarded this way all along?  I think I even heard someone suggest first overall.

Im a Gator fan and have always liked Fowler, dude is a beast and has no weakness.  It all started when Daniel Jeremiah mocked him to us in his first mock and then people took it and ran with it.  That said if we do take Fowler hopefully its not at 3.  I want a player coming off the edge as more of a speed rusher, although Fowler's game is more all around than a Ray or Gregory.  Fowler and Williams are close to me but I want to see what all these players can do at the combine

I do watch every Florida game and it seemed on almost every player Fowler was in the back field.  If Fowler was the pick at 3 I wouldnt hate it though.

Its a weak class at the top. People are starting to realize that, so there's more parity.

If Williams is gone just take Shelton and call it a night.

No thanks.  I'd rather have Fowler or Gregory.  I think Shelton will make a really good 5-tech, but not sure I see the upside that these other guys have.

In Chicago where they run a 3-4 primarily yes, in our system I had assumed a 5-tech.  Or do you think he'd bump out Miller and be our 1-tech?  Either way, I'd rather have Fowler.  I think he's the better prospect.

Is Beasley coming into the conversation more now ? He measured up bigger than many people expected...

Beasley is more in the picture than Ray is to me.

I'm a Gator fan and watched every game.  I never really got the sense of a dominant take over the game pass rusher.  I got the sense of a quality pass rusher, the kind of guy that would make pick 35 look really great if he slid to the second round.  I never really saw this 2 or 3 overall pick kind of talent.

And to the above poster, one thing we have learned in the NFL is that there is no magic equation to perfectly predict pass rushers.  If someone ever found one, they would make a LOT of money.  That being said, there are also a lot of athletic Dlineman who never really made it to the QB in college that never made it to the QB in the league either, despite their wingspan and broad jump.

Fowler is much better than a 2nd round prospect. I was hoping if we drafted him we traded back a few spots then got him so we didn't get him at 3, but then you think about it, our needs, and the rest of the players on the board, and the players in this draft, Fowler at 3 probably probably wouldn't be much of a reach

I think Fowler is a good not great pass rusher, but does a lot of other things well.

He's that high because he has a high floor as well as a high ceiling, whereas guys like Randy Gregory have very low floors and very high ceilings.
