It's possible, given that the Otto is basically a 3-4 OLB and marquee pass rusher, but they'd have to be a Khalil Mack-type player. Combine results aside, I'm not sure that that guy exists in this year's draft.

All I gotta say is Mmmmmmingo.

I've seen people say Fowler, Ray, Beasley, and Dupree could be OTTOs instead of LEOs so maybe, but getting to the QB is #1 and #2 most important thing so I don't see why they'd have them doing non pass rush stuff half the time unless they just don't think someone like Beasley would have the length to play LEO.

Actually, here is Beasley's shocking half moon spider web. Perhaps he is better as an OTTO with that lack of length.

That's what I was thinking. If he doesn't have the length that has been the defining factor of previous LEOs why not throw him at your stud (literally and figuratively) LB position and let him make plays. If, that is, you think he can play three downs.

Yeah, it definitely makes his evaluation trickier. That said, I wasn't taking him at 3 over Williams or Fowler, and I think he is still a really good player and would be just fine drafting him at 6 if we traded down so not much would change.

I'm curious to see a few more spider charts. Do you have the ones for Williams, Fowler, and Dupree?

Ray's is only measurements and bench press cause of his foot injury.

Wow. Fowler's looks all jacked up.

The truest defining characteristic of the leo position is the ability to penetrate off the edge and affect the passer. Arm length is a part of that equation, but if the choice is between a short arm guy dragging down the QB or a long armed guy who can't get around the tackle then you take the guy who can finish a rush.

I think that with both otto and leo we are trying to create two more rigid boxes, and I don't think that's the point. The point of a more hybridized defense is to find a way to get dynamic athletes who CAN affect the passer on the field and create a system that shields their weaknesses as opposed to creating a rigid exclusionary defensive ideology.

Why? Obivously wide receiver is the popular thing to mock because the Raiders need one and two options available are good enough to be top five picks.

Do you really think Kevin White and Amari Cooper will both drop out of the top five? That would happen if the Raiders don't pick one of them.

It's only like that when compared to other DEs. Look at graph when put at OLB.

We should put him at OTTO if we draft him. Sign a LEO, draft an OTTO.

I'm leaning more and more this way, the more I think about it. Beasley never really dropped on my board, such as it is, in my mind, but other players have come into consideration on it. I think moving to a LB spot will be a learning curve for him, and when I read "...needs to crank up competitive nature in order to reach his potential
." it makes me a little worried, but I think that it may be a way that the team can bolster the LB and DL corps with one player.

So I went to the Fanspeak simulator with the above idea in mind. What follows is my draft:

3: R1P3 - OLB VIC BEASLEY - CLEMSON

36: R2P4 - DE OWAMAGBE ODIGHIZUWA - UCLA

67: R3P3 - RB JAY AJAYI - BOISE STATE

100: R4P4 - OT DARYL WILLIAMS - OKLAHOMA

131: R5P3 - DE DAVIS TULL – OT CHATTANOOGA

164: R6P4 - CB BYRON JONES - CONNECTICUT

195: R7P3 - TE BLAKE BELL - OKLAHOMA

My impressions from this haul is that I made the LB and DL positions better, specifically in the area of pass rusher in the forms of Beasley and Owa. I got a quality rotation RB that can do most anything on a football field with Ajayi, I added depth and competition at Right Tackle, even if I didn't get a starter. And at the very least I got three Special Teams starters with Tull, Jones, and Bell.

Thoughts? Especially with how it relates to Beasley?

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
