Chip Kelly already plotting to trade up for Mariota?
|
So who here is buying the rumors on who wants to trade up for who, months before the draft even happens? I highly doubt Chip Kelly is telling people he wants Mariota, or anyone else for that matter. This reeks of some media scumbag throwing an article out there to get clicks. God knows iggle fans are dumb enough to give them to him too.
I'm not sure which has been worse the last few years as a Jags fan: the regular season or the off season. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Personally, I'd give up my #3 pick in exchange with any NON PLAYOFF TEAM for their 1st and 2nd round pick + their 2016 1st round pick. Heck, I'd probably do 2015 1st and 2nd + 2nd round pick in 2016.Ok Gene..... Dave's runnin this thang now....

God knows iggle fans are dumb enough to give them to him too. Nick Foles recently said he is not in danger of losing his starting job in Philadelphia. Chip Kelly never told him anything, but the media certainy did. Until someone gives me a quote from Kelly about trading up, I am going to assume there is no basis for the rumor because no team would trade "a king's ransom" for a guy they don't need and the Eagles certainly don't need a quarterback.

Quote: It would have to be a huge return to make that move. The Browns got two first, a second and two fourths in the Julio Jones trade. That would be the minimum I would take.

Rumors heating up per rotoworld:
Quote:Marcus Mariota | CLG
"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
Evidence contiunes to build. Per rotoworld:
Quote:Marcus Mariota | CLG
"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
So one guy calls the team dumping DeSean (after the media said he was a gangbanger), and now hes the Mrs. Cleo of the NFL draft, got it. Ive literally never heard of any Adam Levitan, and rotoworld isnt known for its accuracy. These would be the media scumbags I alluded to earlier.
According to the draft trade value chart if the Eagles are determined to move into the top 6 of the draft:
Quote:Here is a breakdown of what that might cost, according to the NFL Draft Value Chart, which assigns a point value to every pick. http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2015/02/report_eagles_are_determined_to_land_marcus_mariot.html

I'm actually perfectly fine staying at #3 and getting an impact player now, this year.
Let my scouts and coaches do their job and then pick the best non-QB available, which will probably be one of the pass rushers. Now, if someone from pick 6 or 7 wants to trade up, I will listen because you will probably still find a really good player there. If you only think there's 4-5 potential stars in this draft: stay put and take one. Don't trade back.

If we want a DE I really don't think Beasley,Fowler, Ray, Dupree, Gregory are that big of a difference we could also get the best TE of the draft if we move back or someone who I think is a beast RT La'el Collins.
Really depends on free agency. McPhee for Otto, a RT, The free safety from buffalo maybe, CB Jackson, to play nickel then it's all about depth. Then it's possible to trade down because you'll be looking for young depth instead of a starter. I'd want a lot from the eagles to go that far. You have to use their eagerness to get him as leverage because a QB that you believe in is priceless.

One thing I'm wondering, which I haven't seen someone address yet, is why would the Eagles want to trade with us? We obviously aren't going to draft a QB, neither are the two teams drafting after us. It seems it would be more valuable for the Eagles to trade with the Raiders or the Redskins. At 20, it's very likely the Raiders could still land a top WR or CB, maybe even a pass rusher depending on how the dominoes fall. Same with the Redskins who can still draft a top need player at 20. Best case scenario for me if Winston and Williams go 1 and 2 would be to trade out. We need the extra picks and can still get some very good need players later on in the draft. Fowler is going to be a bust and all the other pass rushers are a huge reach at 3.
This works out perfect. We don't have the best draft prospect since Luck in our division AND we can potentially benefit from a trade down from Kelly. I am all for it. I admittedly didn't watch much of Mariota outside of the champtionship game, but I just don't see the "it" factor in him. In fact, I was hoping the tacks would take him.

They vent risk waiting cuz another team can decide to trade with us instead and they'll lose their guy

Quote:Absolutely. I want your 20th overall pick, your 52nd overall pick, your 110th pick in this year's draft along with your 1st round and 3rd round pick in 2016's draft for the 3rd overall pick though. I would be so happy if they wanted to trade us that many picks. I really hope this rumor has legs. It never seems to happen for us, but I'd like just once for it to swing our way.

The thing is though, if you bank on making a deal for say #4 or #5, there is absolutely no guarantee that another QB needy team doesn't jump to #3 ahead of you. In fact, if the Eagles desire to move up has any merit, I'd think other QB needy teams would definitely be talking to us. And really, when talking about capital expended to move from 20, I don't see the difference being large regardless of where you move between 3-5. If I'm the Eagles and I'm willing to spend that much on a guy, I'd rather toss in an extra 4th rounder and be sure I'm getting him. Wouldn't it suck for them if the Eagles traded up to say #4 and the Jets traded up with us to leapfrog them?
