Chew on that.
They are very different players. Very different.

T. Smith is a deep threat burner while shorts is a mid range drop artist.  Cobb is much better than both.

Disagree here. While San Francisco may want him, I thought I read somewhere that they are very tight against the cap.

Interesting.  They may not be able to afford him, but I've seen SF mentioned when folks are talking Maclin and Smith since their WR cupboard is getting bare.

Boldin is the only receiver of note returning for them and they are reportedly bullying Stevie Johnson into a "take a pay cut or get cut" scenario.

I certainly don't know their cap situation - so it's certainly possible they are players for guys like Shorts, Nicks or Nate Washington etc rather than the guys likely to claim big paydays.

I dont have a problem with Cobb. I have my doubts about Smith. I wanted us to draft Maclin so that would be ok with me. TO me, the Andre Johnson trade interest me becase if we can give up a 5th or 6th rounder for him, we would be golden as far as a veteran WR who is a leader.

Quote:I could see going after Maclin at a slight discount - though I think Cobb is the better player and is less likely to pull a "Jerry Porter" in free agency.  Still - Maclin at around 8 mil per year might be attractive.

I think Torrey Smith might be a fraction of the cost - but will also post a fraction of the stats where ever he ends up.  He disappeared in too many games last season.

Cobb is definitely the better player. But each of these players mentioned will play a different role here if signed. Cobb will be utilized more in the slot, with ARob and Lee/Hurns on the outside. Maclin will likely play outside along with ARob, but can slide inside if needed. Smith will stay outside and be the deep threat.

Cobb is the tantalizing option, but there's also the question of him outside. He was used predominantly in the slot in that Packers offense. For the money we're going to pay him, he needs to be able to play outside. Can he? We need to determine that unless we plan on running more 3 WR sets.

Maclin offers more versatility as being able to play outside, and the flexibility to play in the slot. I actually think he's a good fit here, but the Eagles have now cleared a lot of space after the trade of McCoy.

Smith is the worst of the three talent-wise, IMO. BUT...he might be a better fit. He won't be as expensive as either of the two mentioned above, but provides this team with something it desperately lacks as far as game-breaking deep speed. This is good because it will allow ARob to work the short/intermediate routes that he was great at last season, and Lee to get his underneath YAC catches. From a fit standpoint, Torrey is actually a nice fit for this offense.

The Packers reportedly informed free agent Randall Cobb's camp that they are willing to sign him to a five-year deal worth $8-9 million annually.

Agent Jimmy Sexton "basically has told the team he's confident more lucrative offers await." Venerable Packers beat writer Bob McGinn confirms the Jaguars are "expected to be all over Cobb," while the Raiders are "also ready to enter the Cobb sweepstakes." Concludes McGinn, "barring the unexpected ... it appears as if Cobb will be playing elsewhere next season."

A league source told Packer Report's Bill Huber the Raiders are considering offering free agent Randall Cobb "a blockbuster deal."

The same source said Jacksonville is "prepared to make a run" at Cobb. The source claims Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie -- an ex-Packers personnel man -- is willing to offer Cobb $11 million annually, a price Green Bay GM Ted Thompson almost certainly wouldn't match. Cobb would replace James Jones as the Raiders' slot receiver. His fantasy outlook would take a huge blow in Oakland.

The Florida Times Union believes free agent Randall Cobb "should" be on the Jaguars' wish list.

Beat writer Ryan O'Halloran has been beating the drum for the Jags to add a premier playmaker, and is calling for Julius Thomas, Cobb, or even both. Jacksonville has a ton of cap room and seems prepared to blow some of its wad early in free agency. It's going to do everything it can to surround Blake Bortles with talent. O'Halloran suggests ponying up a five-year, $56 million deal for Cobb. He's reportedly seeking $9-12 million per year.

Call me crazy but the only guy really worth the ridiculous money he will get is Suh.

He is a hall of famer regardless of scheme or supporting cast.

Everyone else, like Cobb, needs a lot to go right for him in order to be effective.

Most guys are cogs in the machine. Suh is a rarity in free agency.

That's why to me, it should look like this in terms of priority FAs:

Suh

Bulaga

McCourty

Maclin/Cobb

Your view of guys like Cobb and McCourty are impacted by Suh being out there. In most years, they would have been the top guys. Maclin and Bulaga's injury histories worry me.

well of course.  But Suh is available so he should be by far the #1 target.

According to John Oesher, the Jags will be pursuing a WR and it may be Randall Cobb (or it may not).

(Thanks Captain Obvious, btw, love the beard.)

I really can't come up with a legitimate reason to do that.

I mean, I'm on Twitter already and I don't need any more "stupid" packed onto my TL than I already get.

Let me take a guess.... Alfie blocked him right?
