Ole Miss gives job to brother of 5-star QB

#1

Quote:Earlier this month it was reported that Sean Patterson, the brother of five-star 2016 Ole Miss quarterback commit Shea Patterson (pictured), had quit his job as an offensive quality control assistant at LSU.  At the time, his father stated that Sean Patterson had several job opportunities, one of which just so happened to be in Oxford.

Not surprisingly, that Rebel job has come to fruition.

According to Hugh Kellenberger of the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, Sean Patterson is now listed in the Ole Miss online directory as the football program’s associate director of recruiting operations.  Kellenberger noted that Patterson’s name was added to the directory Monday, although it’s unknown when he actually began the job.

Shea Patterson, a five-star quarterback rated as the No. 3 player in the country in next year’s class by Rivals.com, announced Feb. 17 that he had verbally committed to play his college football at Ole Miss.  Patterson, a Louisiana native, committed to Ole Miss over LSU.

The same day of Patterson’s commitment, reports surfaced that his brother was leaving his job at LSU.

College footbal recruiting is such a dirty business. And Hugh Freeze seems to be good at it.

Meh. They all do it in some fashion or another.

What's the issue? It's not like the brother is now the OC.

How is hiring someone to a coaching position a loophole?

The brother was on LSU staff so he has experience and is qualified right?

It's not like the Petrino mistress case where he gave the position to an unqualified lady over multiple qualified applicants.

Like others have pointed out...if he was put at OC or an unqualified position or if he is making twice as much as his position is normally paid...then it might seem shady.

I am sure technically there is nothing wrong with what he did. Just funny that his brother left for this job right when his brother committed.

When Freeze was Michael Oher's high school coach, he was hired for an administrative job at Ole Miss just a few weeks before Oher committed to play there. No wrong doing was found but still raised a few eye brows.

Recruiting is a nasty business.

Agree. Freeze looks to be one of the best in the business in recruiting.

And all of the underhanded, behind the scenes stuff that the term implies.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I'll echo what most people are saying that this is a standard practice in the world of recruiting.  That being said, these two boys are Louisiana natives.  Good bye to EVER going home.

Says he was born in Ohio and moved to Texas at 11. Wouldn't call him a LA native.

Interesting Arizona, then LSU, then Ole Miss hired him...chances Brother gets a job at an Alabama or FSU type program next?? right before signing day..

If you want to compete with Saban and the SEC (and the name of your University is Mississippi), you need to do some shady things.

Personally, I like the fact that all of the SEC West teams are more relevant so I'm hoping Miss & Miss State can keep doing what they're doing.

That Brother of the recruit must be loving life with his 5 years of job security.   Probably calls in sick 3 days out of the week.  Boss says ... no problem, stay home and get healthy.

It's just a slippery slope to me.  Who is to say his brother doesn't get in a bidding war and it's really all based on where the kid goes.  LSU gives 200k, Arizona gives 375k, but Ole Miss ponied up 600k so thats where it goes.

It just seems like a dangerous situation if we're talking "amateur" athletes.
