I don't understand why anybody is reporting Suh already has a deal. Teams are not allowed to offer or promise anything until Tuesday at 4:00.

Yeah, and everybody follows that rule to the letter.

Seriously, what's the point of allowing teams to talk to pending UFAs if they aren't allowed to offer terms? The NFL knows about this practice and doesn't care.

I agree with you.   The rules state that there can be no offer or agreement until Tuesday.

But yet there is. Just like every single year leading up to this year, and probably for hundreds of years to follow, players are agreeing to deals prior to the "official" signing period.

The one thing that should be stressed is buyer beware!  A player and agent might say behind closed doors they have agreed to terms before Tuesday.   But what happens if another team comes up with a noticeably better offer?     Nothing is binding.   There might be some bitterness if a player / agent decides to sign with a different team.    Yet,  the team that made the original non binding deal only has themselves to blame if they make a so called agreement ahead of time but the player/ agent back out.

It is a pretty rare occurrence, but is a possibility.

Agreed.  It wouldn't surprise me if it happens once or twice in the coming days,  even if we don't hear about a non binding agreement ( s ) that took place in the 3 day window or even before that.

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't.

While he may sign with them, he'd be stupid not to put a price out there to see if anyone is willing to beat it.

That's franchise QB money.
