24 touchdown receptions in 2 seasons for Thomas. Wow.

 

 

For comparison Marcedes Lewis has 27 in 9 seasons.

 

And if Lewis played with Manning he'd probably have 20 in two seasons as well.

Thomas has much better hands than Lewis, Lewis is a much better blocker but this is a very good addition to the team. Who was the last real red zone threat the Jags had?

Lewis could drop 20 and still get 10 TDs a season with Manning throwing him the ball simply because he'd have that many more oppor-two-knees than he's had here.

I'm not saying Thomas will get 24 TD's in 2 season here but those stats are indicative of the red zone threat he is.

I'd actually like the Jags to keep Lewis around, I appreciate his blocking skills and think that having both Lewis and Thomas in the redzone with ARob and Blackmon (if back) could cause some real problems for defenders.

Hopefully we get him! I don't understand the push to bring in a FA WR, but getting a TE makes a lot of sense. This would be a good start to free agency!

If it does happen, it will be interesting to see what happens with Lewis. Cut, extended to lesser deal, kept at 8.2 million as a blocker?

If... the Julius deal happens for us, I would think that when the time comes, the team will offer Lewis the option of a lesser contract or of being released. Lewis is a good blocking TE, but that doesn't make him worth the kind of money he has previously been getting. This become particularly true if we happen to also sign Bulaga in f/a; Lewis's importance as a blocking TE will be substantially diminished.

I think people are going to get disappointed on the McCourty front. Eagles insiders are saying the eagles feel good about their chances, and than on top of that the place he wants to go (NE) still isn't out.

 

I don't see him coming here.

I sure would like to see us utilize some two TE sets with Lewis and Thomas. That's two freaking huge men in the red zone, regardless of Marcedes' stone hands. Just having Thomas around will make the Hurns/Lee/Robinson coverage more doable. This makes losing out on Suh more palpable.

The new NFL is all about creating mismatches and I am on board with this move.   And with the return of Blackmon evident.   There is no way they can only game plan for Thomas.  Not to mention the Speed in Hurns and Lee and the great routes in the slot by Robinson.   If Blake gets more time to throw the ball and they grab a capable backup and some line men it is looking like can be a much better team. 

 

Now if we were to draft Gurley too who can catch out of the backfield and a great rb.  The Jags future be really bright.

Robinson is not a slot guy - and the Blackmon return is still a little sketchy.   I agree on the rest.

If Lewis can have the kind of season he did in 2010 on an also pretty bad team, im pretty confident Thomas will definitely be an upgrade and i don't think he will be hamstrung here as some think.


Between Bortles, the young receivers, and hopefully a more capable offensive staff I hope this team will become a lot more potent on that side of the ball. It is hard to shed the old mindset of the Jags being bad.
