But...people said Ryan Mallett has all the tools.......we were stupid for not trading for him....why can't people SEE that?!?  Next thing we know, someone is gonna swoop in and snag Stephen Hill off the Panthers practice squad.

Quote:I don't know anything about Parnell or Barskdale. What I do know is if a player was usually a backup somewhere else, he should be the backup here too because we cannot accept mediocrity anymore.

That's 100% not true. There are a ton of backups in the league that should be starting for whatever reason. By that logic if Bortles was backing up Manning then he shouldn't be a starter here right?

Just bc they aren't better than the talent in front of them doesn't mean they aren't better than what we have

Bad example. Almost any quarterback would back up Peyton Manning. I am just saying we need to stop accepting mediocrity by signing backup quality players for starting jobs.

Its a valid example. You just don't like that I was right.

My point being "backup quality" is relative. If you play behind someone great then even if you are great you may not get a chance to play.

Bortles behind Manning

Denard behind AP

McCray behind Revis

Hell even let's say Bowanko behind Me ester

There's a reason people make it to FA, established starters rarely make it like this year.

NFL.com poll today: "What would be the best free agent fit for DeMarco Murray?" FWIW the Colts are slightly ahead of the Cowboys so watch out for them.

Why hasn't the Thomas signing been made official?

Suh, Maclin, McCourty, etc have all signed and their new deals have been announced but yet we have yet to hear anything about Thomas.

For some reason I am having doubts that he actually is signing here and think he is using the Jags to drive up his price.

Suh has not signed. No FA can actually sign a deal until tomorrow at 4pm. The fact that contract details for Thomas are out there pretty much mean its done.

Maclin, McCourty, Cobb, etc can all sign bc its a deal with their original team. No one moving teams will be official till tomorrow.

Correction on my part, you're right right, Maclin has not signed since he's going to KC. For some reason I thought he stayed in Philly

Quote:I also hope they are looking at Pernell McPhee. Each time I watched the Ravens play last season, dude was leaving a good impression on me.

McPhee over Odrick at least..

McPhee in the Red Bryant/Alualu End…Odrick on the inside…why not get both?

Odrick as Bryant's long term replacement at 5 tech, and McPhee (or Worilds) as OTTO sounds awfully good to me.

EDIT: Wow, PFF gave McPhee a 26 grade on 540 snaps. To compare to Justin Houston's 51.1 on 1057 snaps or JPP's 16.9 on 981 snaps. Say what you will about PFF, but there's no way they are off that bad McPhee is a beast.

But we're using free agency to fill holes, not to stock the team for the future.   We have a hole at TE, FS, RT.   Do we really have a hole at defensive line?   Or is the money just burning a hole in our pocket?

Ok, then what I meant was Odrick as the starting 5 tech right now and in the long term, with Bryant and Alualu rotating behind him. Obviously if we get Odrick at the expected ~7 mil AAV he will be starting for us.

Two things here: I feel like Odrick is a target of opportunity. In other words, they didn't expect him to be available but once he was, they made their move. He's a young, capable player that has a lot of football ahead of him. Those guys don't come to Free Agency all that often.

Secondly, the Front Office has stated that the OTTO position is a unique fit and hard to find the right player with which to man (see: Dakoda Watson), so you fill that spot whenever possible due to how tough it is to fill.

My two cents.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Guy on Mike and Mike just said McCourty is coming on in studio soon, and he was 'surprised at how strong of a pitch the Jaguars gave him'. Will be an interesting listen later.

You can only sign who's available.

Suh, Cobb, McCourty.... They were never coming here. 2 of them wanted to stay put and Suh wanted to go to Miami for some reason.

Aside from him not starting here, I don't know if that is a good thing (his surprise) or not.

On the one hand, if he was pleasantly surprised and word gets out, then perhaps more players might take the Jaguars seriously as a potential employer.

On the other hand, if the team has been so bad and so cheap for so long that players don't expect the team to make serious bids for top talent, that is a reputation that will have to be overcome over the next few years.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
