CB Davon House signing with Jaguars

#81

Quote:So Colvin who missed most of the year and played sparingly coming back with his only start coming when Gratz was hurt is somehow better than the guy who has started most of the season and held Hopkins when he was on a tear, held Beckham when he was on a tear, held Dez Bryant before they switched him to the other side and dominated, limited Antonio Brown (and even made the Steelers give him garbage catches late in the game to keep some kind of catch streak going),  and over all graded out well on many adv. stat/metric scoring?

Ok, Gotcha.

all I said was that he didn't play due to injury.  when he got healthy... he played.  it's very possible that Colvin is better, but I don't know or care really.

No. Just no.

Colvin came in and was immediately visible.  He made impact plays from his first snap.

Meanwhile, McCray was solid but unspectacular.  Reliable, but not a playmaker like Colvin.

Signing House gave us a bigger McCray who actually has the ability to catch a football (vs. McCrays ZERO ints...)

Jaguars sign CB Davon House (4 years, $25 million): CALDWELL Grade

Yes, David Caldwell has finally earned his own grade. He's not yet as bad as Matt Millen - he needs to shout homophobic remarks at his own players and criticize Polish people on live television to get there - but he might be just as inept at his job as Millen was, albeit without the impressive longevity Millen maintained.

To be clear, the $25 million figure is an approximation. We know Davon House will be getting $6.25 million per year over four seasons, so I'm assuming the sum total of this deal is $25 million, but it could be more or less. Regardless, it's an awful signing. House has the size that Gus Bradley likes out of his defensive backs, but that's about it. House is not a good player, which is why he was 21st in my Free Agent Cornerback Rankings. He didn't even warrant a write-up.

WalterFootball really hates Dave Caldwell. I can see why you guys don't like him now  :teehee:

If you didn't care, then why did you interject yourself in the discussion on whether Colvin is better than McCray?

because you obviously overlooked the fact that Colvin started the year on PUP and immediately started playing when he was available.  it wasn't just because "Gratz got hurt".  Gratz was about to be benched due to poor performance regardless.

no, I don't care to get involved with the "who's better" argument.  however, im setting your facts (or lack thereof) straight.

Colvin made impact plays, from the nickel. Picking up a fumble. Hurrah.

Signing House gives us a bigger Gratz, and a much bigger Colvin.

And yet, when Gratz was healthy later in the year, who played in the nickel?

Colvin played well, I'm not arguing that. But he was not better than McCray.

The Jaguars were in the top 5 all season in sacks, yet the DBs barely got any interceptions all year & PDs.  I keep reading on the MB about how great the DBs are on the team, and I'm confused because the scores & stats didnt reflect that.

I hope that the team does sign CB House but I would be more excited if it was Revis!

Quote:The GM said he was gonig to be aggressive in Free Agency to address the team needs.  The proposed signings are interesting but some are confusing why sign House and not Maxwell or even better Revis?
Two reasons:

1. Maxwell, who may not be all that much better, costs twice as much, and an aging Revis costs even more.

2. Caldwell doesn't base his acquisitions on Madden ratings.

there's no question Maxwell is a good fit for us, but 10 million per year.  I mean, holy crap.

That's a damn shame because my team averages 70 points per game..

He also didn't seem too enthused when he saw that Jaguars helmet on that "blind date" thing they did at ESPN/NFLN.

The fumble he caused.

Missed that part, too.  Among many things...

Colvin is a special talent, and it's quite obvious.  McCray, not so much.  Hence, the House signing... same player, only bigger with the actual ability to make plays.
