Demarco Murray

#1

What should we do with our RB situation? Is our best option to pick up Murray, pick one in the draft, or go elsewhere?

I think Murray would be a great addition, but he is 27 and as well all know 30 is that age that TBs disappear. We are a team on the raise still have a year or 2 more till we become elite, unless Bortles starts playing out of his mind... with that being said i been thinking our best bet is to go get a RB in the draft. Then again if we do get Murray we could focus on our remain need in the draft (Secondary and O-line). What are your thoughts?

As of right now any option is a good one. It most def needs an upgrade, but we are in a win/win situation. Demarco is a beast with great vision so if we get him at a fair price I'd be happy, or look to the draft and get a guy to compliment Denard. Murray being allowed to test FA is just a bonus! I'm just happy to know that he is strongly considering us. A couple of seasons ago that wasn't necessarily the case.

draft please, don't need to spend a huge contract on an injury prone running back who just got run into the ground last season and doesn't play like Lynch or Gore.

Signing Murry should have little impact on developing a future RB.

Right now the focus in free agency has been bringing in veterans who will have an instant impact. They want some production now and Murray fits that bill.

I'm not convinced Murray is worthwhile even for a short term.

Look at that list of top # of carries in a season. Click on the player's names, and look at the following seasons. Most of them dropped off sharply the next season. The ones that didn't played in the 1980's.

I admittedly don't know the answer - but, how many of those guys were expected to follow up with a similar crazy number of carries?  As I've said before - Murray could have the luxury of a "kid gloves" off season in Jax followed by a dramatically reduced # of carries in the reg. season.  I could see that working out well.  Still....  despite our cap-space - I don't see him as a priority signing.  More of a luxury due to the money available. Whether he's worth the gamble in that regard is a question for Caldwell.  We don't know - but he seems to think it's worth trying.

Murray/Toby combo could work. That's a lot of money for the backfield but hey it's not like the Jaguars don't have any.

If guys like Gore and McCoy are getting signed to deals i do not understand how Jags fans couldnt want Murray. McCoy is only six months younger has two more seasons of wear and tear and over 500 more carries. Murray has a couple more years before he is gonna fall off, i hope it is in Duval because that dude can play.

If I sign Murray I'm also picking up a running back in the early-mid second round to rotate with him. I feel like there'll be tremendous value for a running back in the second round.

You remember the success the Jaguars had the last time they did that.

If you could guarantee me getting Jay Ajayi in the draft i would not want Murray

I don't want Murray full stop. Draft a RB or pick up someone else or roll with what we have.

His 400+ carries of wear and tear scare me due to the face that it's rare for a running back to have 400+ carries and do well the following season. Like really rare. Regardless, we cannot base our opinions off of this because Demarco would be a vast upgrade from what we currently have. We NEED a back who:

-Can handle 20+ carries

-Can run in between the tackles and push to the outside

-Can pass protect well

-Can be productive in the 2 minute drill

-Can catch effectively

-Has expirience winning

-Can follow blocks well

Demarco fits all of these needs for us. Regardless, if we are unable to sign him, we should probably draft one in rounds 2-4.

Sign him.  Todman's gone, and there's no such thing as having too much talent.
