It's An Easy Decision

#1

I've thought long and hard about what to do with the number one pick, and here it is. This is assuming number two doesn't want to trade up with us.

Trade down to three for a boatload of picks.

The top three of this draft - Teddy, Mariota, and Clowney - each have outstanding potential at a position of need. This, coupled with the overall wretched state of our roster and the possibility of future first round picks, makes trading down an appealing option.

I hear you all: "But Kodiak, we thought you loved Teddy? Didn't you gush over him in your breakdowns?"

Well yes, I do, and I did. Teddy is still an absolutely phenomenal prospect. However, Marcus Mariota's potential makes Teddy's extra polish negligible, and Clowney's supreme talent is comprable to or in excess of either of the others'.

No matter how we slice it, we will be getting a game changer in the top three. Extra first rounders is icing on the case. Rest easy, Jags fans. Talent is coming.

I'd rather just draft Teddy.

Never draft off potential, especially if the last time you had great qb play was 10 years ago (Brunell). I think the Mariotas ceiling is overrated and that Bridgewater's ceiling is on the same level of Mariota's. Take Bridgewater, relax and sit back. Take Mariota, get Winston next year (put Mariota out wide). This team is not built to deal with a spread option qbs struggles learning a pro style offense, you need a guy who can come in here and take off immediately.

Luck or RG3 (RG3 potential is higher)

Luck every day of the week and twice on sundays, never draft of what "could be"

Teddy is nowhere near the prospect that Luck was and it's very apparent and insulting to others on this board that know better.

By the way, to suggest to "never draft on potential" is stupid as hell! Isnt that what its all about? To draft someone on his potential!?!!? Is Teddy already playing on Sundays?

First of all, your absolute shrill if you say its "nowhere," If Bridgewater was 6'4 225 lbs we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Second of all its a similar comparison.

You have a pro style progression read qb vs. spread option, athletic, qb.

Peyton vs. Leaf

Luck vs. Rg3

Bridgewater vs. Mariota

Just based on trend alone and the success of the qbs in this match up, who would someone in their right mind pick??????

Bridgewater everyday and twice on sundays.

I like to win games not be flashy

I've answered that question multiple times on multiple threads and have explained in detail what I don't like.I even mentioned the things I do like about Teddy instead of completely disregard him and his talent the way you do with Mariota.

Mariota has arm strength and athleticism

Ryan Leaf had arm strength and athleticism over Peyton

I definitely respect your opinion, Kodiak, but I disagree.  You gotta take Bridgewater there.

Let the Buccaneers or the Vikings be the 98 Chargers, not us.

@kokiak,

If you pick the wrong QB, it would set this franchise back another 3 years.

If this team has the first overall pick, they CANNOT trade down. They must take the QB -- whether that would be Mariota or Bridgewater -- that they believe has the best chance to turn this broken franchise around.

If they do pick Clowney or trade down, it means they don't believe any QB prospect this year can turn this franchise around.

After the Blackmon suspension, I kinda want to trade back now if we can get a RG3 deal.  Way too many holes on this team.

If it means Winston next year, I am down for it.

I think he could be back by next season but we need someone who is going to hold him accountable,

I'm not sure if you've watched the Jags as of late but Jedd Fisch has incorporated a lot of college spread/option offense in his playcalling lately. He just doesn't have the personnel to pull it off.

Henne QB option at the 5 yard line anyone?

If it was an easy decision then why did you have to think so long and hard about it?

Lol. The children are afraid of drafting their franchise QB. It's adorable. I hope Kodiak becomes a Bucs fan.

I hope the decision makers in the franchise aren't that stupid...

If we aren't going to get Bridgewater, draft Clowney so we could get Winston next year...Not set us make with a misstep at qb for years
