Blackmon suspended

At this point, it will be a shock when something goes right for this organization.

That's what I'm thinking. Does anyone have the contract details that were set in place to protect the franchise should something like this happen?

Err...n/m my reply above...just saw this...
Quote:For those wondering the financial impact: So JB has already forfeited about 2 million due to suspensions this year and has another 5 million in jeopardy if he is cut or not reinstated next year. </blockquote>

It's whatever at this point. This organization is a joke and this season has been shot a long time ago. I don't feel nothing for the dude to be honest. I think it's weak minded to let drugs control your life to this point. Yeah a lot of you are sympathetic to addiction but I just can't be. I knew he wouldn't last the rest of his career not getting suspend because you can see it in his interviews he thinks he can do whatever he wants to.
I'll say this though: If they let him back on the team next year and he's doing interviews with dip in his lip he'll be suspended again in due time. Just a gut feeling nothing more than that but I feel confident on my prediction. For this team the off season has become more exciting than the actual regular season. I'm more into the draft and free agency than the games because then when the games do come around, everything that happened in the off season goes to crap.
Cut him.
There are several superior WR options coming up in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Quote:Cut him. There's no point in cutting him. But you can't rely on him anymore. At this point he goes from being an integral part of the offense to being a luxury
THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.
RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.
In his defense I think id have to resort to drug use/ drinking if I was playing for this years jags.
Hell I'm having to resort to it just by watching it. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:What evidence do you have that he is addicted to anything and not just stupid? Alcohol and drug use are not necessarily related. As several posters have pointed out, marijuana is not addictive and does anyone on this board really know what "substance" caused his suspension? Addictions come in many forms which can bring a person down. Food, which can cause obesity which can tremendous health problems. Sex, which can destroy relationships. Gambling, which can ruin a person financially. Drugs/Alcohol, which can cause a person problems with the law, and can kill themselves and potentially others. Usually the reasons that people have such a hard time quitting or changing their behavior is because they like the feeling they get from whatever addiction they have and feel they cannot get on with their lives without them. Everybody has something that they deal with and sometimes it gets the best of others. No one is exempt, because it could happen to anyone. Of course JB made bad choices, or else he wouldn't be in the predicament and now he has got to want to climb out of this hole he has dug for himself to get headed in the right direction.
After reading JB's statement, it's pretty clear that there will be a 4th time. He still doesn't get it. Using words like "matters", and "issues", and "challenges". Dude, you are an addict. Until you can come to grips with that, the clock will always be ticking toward the next time. And he says that he's disappointed in "all of this". How about being disappointed in "yourself" JB. I'd like to see the Jags see him through the process of getting some help, but once that plays out, he can start over somewhere else.
Who's really the best person to do Justin's job now, for the rest of the season?
#becauseJaguars
I mean is there anything more to say? I'm in late to this thread, but here are some of my thoughts (not that anyone cares... But I don't care if you don't care) My first reaction was "Of course this had to happen to the Jags", then it was anger towards Blackmon, then it was pity for him. Now it's uncaring. Sure, it's sad that this kid has an addiction. But I really couldn't care less about this or feel the need to support him. This guy has millions of dollars and had multiple opportunities to turn it around. These are things that most people with addictions never have access to. I honestly think we just need to dump him. Yeah, I know that he's now on the cheap, but who cares? We have a young team that we blew up to rebuild. Having Blackmon on this team WILL NOT HELP in the youth movement's development. Dumping him would not be the Jaguars fault. We stood by him through THREE (3!!) incidents. I don't know for a fact, but I have no doubt, that the Jags provided every avenue to help this kid, and he ingored all that help. JB let the Jags down. He let his team-mates down, and he's no longer the type of player that should be here to help rebuild. Also, with all of his suspensions and games missed, how much are we really gonna miss him? Besides the Denver game this year, it's not as though he's provided anything that will be missed... The previous statement is more of a coping mechanism for me... It's really disappointing as a fan to have to say "Dump" what looks to be a WR with amazing talent. But it's time to cut ties. The overal team should be protected. Having a clueless WR that isn't willing to accept the help of an 800 million dollar organization and all the benefits that organization can provide you as a valued employee of that organization, in terms of addiction/mental health recovery, isn't a good tone to set to the other players. Cut ties, or try to get a 3rd day draft pick out of him. Who cares. Just move him out and continue to rebuild without him. With the amount of turnover we've had, I think most of the team won't even miss him much. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:#becauseJaguars I applaud your sentiments here. My only beef is with your closing line. While I agree in general terms, where this team will likely miss him the most is in the coming years. Hopefully, we'll finally have our franchise QB in Bridgewater. It would help his development tremendously if he had a clean and sober Blackmon catching his passes. But anyone waiting for Blackmon to turn it around is like Linus in the pumpkin patch eagerly awaiting the Great Pumpkin. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:I applaud your sentiments here. Yeah, I re-read my last line... Again, I think that's just me trying to cope with the loss of Blackmon. There's a term for what I'm thinking, but for some reason I can't put my finger on it... Rationalizing! That's what I'm doing. I agree, a clean and sober JB would be a huge benefit to this team in the future. But I don't see this happening. Not that it is impossible. But this guy is on a path that I don't think the Jags can help. Hes the type of person that needs to go through a "Ricky Williams" type journey. He needs to get out of the NFL and really focus on his issues. The NFL doesn't seem to be a good place for someone with a taste for depressants... Think of all the painkillers that must be hanging around the locker room... It's just a matter of time when a player with an addiction who's sore and taking some pain killers doesn't decide to take a toke or a drink... He needs out, I hate to say it. If we try to keep him, it's only a matter of time before he relapses. Of course I hope I'm wrong! I would hope that he turns into a Chris Carter type story... But even that story only began after his original team dumped him... again, #becauseJaguars
Edit: By "Ricky Williams type journey", I'm only referring to him leaving the league to get his head straight. I don't think that leaving the leauge to continue to do a whole lot of dope would be benefitical to him!
Just the leaving the league to get right, figure himself out, figure out if he really wants to be an NFL player, etc... That type of journey. I know somone is gonna snark the "Ricky Williams" thing. So I wanted to pre-empt the snark!
the news actually made me feel a little bit sick, I know it's a huge over reaction but I'm just gutted as he looked good, stronger faster and everything deceived me to think he was turning a cornor.
If he was on any other roster in the nfl I think he would be cut, but this roster is so talent deficient we are clinging to a guy that has let us down three times . Though I understand he is an addict i really wish we had done what the niners had done with aldon smith and forced him to deal with his issues and check into rehab last time even if it meant we didn't have him for a longer time this season. Though the season is a wash so it doesn't matter say he comes back for 2014 gets good and we end up on a play off run or competing for the division in 2015 and then this happens again it could derail us totally. I wish we could have the luxury of cutting him and it not mattering but it would sadly open up a hole in one of our sole positions of strength. Just gutted. Investing more in him will be just fruitless.
I guess the paychecks will stop, they'll try rehab....and he'll go right back to whatever it is he's using. If the potential of losing 10 million dollars doesn't motivate you , nothing ever will. There are more great players coming in the draft that understand what it means to play in the NFL, DC's job is to find them. Time to move on.
Because Jaguars is our mantra
![]() Quote:Over/under on JB being out of the league this time next year? Yup. And, this JB ordeal reminds me a lot of Odell Thurman also. He was am absolute stud LB his rookie season,, couldn't stay out of trouble,, got into Goodells program,, ended up suspended indefinitely. I think this is it for Blackmon. Hope not, well see.
Oh that will show me to predict a bye week win. This is the worse season ever.
