Quote:I see, so Gabbert gets 3 years, and Barkley gets 2 games.... 'k.

He's the same guy we saw at USC. I think some people were just blinded by the USC uniform/mystique and overlooked that he had the best receiving duo in the country.

Matt Barkley is reportedly on the trading block.   Chip Kelly reminds me of a mad scientist.  :teehee:

Reminding me more and more of Steve Spurrier, or maybe Nick Saban in the NFL.

Relax, I got this...

You sure?!?

No problem...

The Steve Spurrier comparison is the one that came to mind for me in recent weeks.    Both have great Offensive football minds.  Yet,  the goal with them apparently is being on the cutting edge.

When the time comes that Chip Kelly is no longer the Eagles HC,   I'm anticipating the Eagles being in a situation in which the new G.M. and HC is going to have to undo a large portion of what Kelly left behind.

Agree.  And the irony is, it will probably be because he's "undo"ing a lot of what he inherited, that he seemingly didn't need to.  There was (seemingly) a lot there to work with.  Was.

Did he look at the 49ers and think his roster was going to stale out not long down the road, and move prematurely to try to prevent that in Philly?

I would rather have Matt Barkley over Stephen Morris as my 3rd string QB.  However, I wouldn't trade an 8th round draft pick for him.

Just wait until he has a draft class full of former Oregon Ducks.

Barkley being on the trading block makes you wonder about Kelly? We're talking Matt Barkley. Why does this matter one way or another?

Cause that's exactly what he said. Smh. I'm noticing a pattern with you, Adam.

I think at least part of Chip Kelly's mindset relates to the question you raised.   Kelly seems like someone who is very proactive in general.   Kelly likely views how the Patriots operate from the standpoint of rather getting rid of a player a year too soon than a year too late.    I believe this was part of the strategy regarding the LeSean McCoy trade.

Having said what I expressed in the first paragraph,   I don't think that the Eagles are going to have the core stability that the Patriots have had.  Kelly probably is going to continue to make huge roster turnover year in and year out until the time comes that he no longer is in Philadelphia.     Kelly seems like the type of decision maker who fits the profile of a Fantasy Football owner in a NON Keeper League.   I think this type of thinking leads to chemistry problems for teams that follow this path.

One way that might help other NFL teams try to project the draft decisions by the Eagles is to keep an eye on not only former Oregon Ducks but players in general that Chip Kelly tried to recruit to Oregon.

From the context beyond the NFL,  it doesn't matter for the most part.

From the context of the NFL,  I think it matters.   The decisions of one team impact the other 31 teams to varying degrees.

Being that Matt Barkley was once considered by many a future top 10 pick and really hasn't had a significant opportunity yet in the NFL,   maybe a change of scenery can at least get Barkley's career going in a direction that leads to a much greater opportunity than he's received in Philadelphia.    Regardless,  considering the high amount of discussion of Matt Barkley  ( both pro and con ) on this MB,   at the very least the article that I posted the link to is something I thought would be of interest to at least some participants of the MB.    Yet,  I understand why some,  if not the majority of people that participate here,   aren't interested in Barkley on the NFL level.    The same can be said for most topics.

So did somebody give up a 1st rounder for Barkley yet freeing up the roster spot for Tebow?
