Thats ridiculous. I don't believe that there wouldn't be one NFC team out there unwilling to give a 6th or even 7th round pick for a guy with Blackmon's potential. 

 

I don't even want them to deal him.....just saying that it would be a better alternative than outright releasing him and having him wind up on some AFC rival team and blow up. 

 

I'd rather the Jags just give him another shot. Sink or swim here, not elsewhere. 

 

 

I would tell you as a fan of the Indianapolis Colts, I would gladly give up a late round pick for Blackmon. Especially given our sorry WR situation moving forward. As I have written, you can't let emotion get ahead of logic. Blackmon could still be playing for the Jaguars in 2014. That is still the Jaguars best case scenario.

Seriously, what is it with our WRs and drugs?  Reggie, Matt Jones, Jimmy, Blackmon, Soward.  Am I missing anyone?  4/5 were drafted by us and in the first round also, which is pretty sad.

 

Soward's work ethic was questioned. There were whispers about that with Matt Jones too, although he worked very hard at the Senior Bowl. Blackmon had a DUI. None were known to have a drug problem in college. Is it poor scouting, or did they all become cocaine users after arriving in Jacksonville. Where does Jimmy Smith (another guy who was clean when he arrived) fit in?


 

Maybe Blackmon's problem is not cocaine. Maybe he's just a coincidence while the other four were all teammates and probably fed each other's habit.


 

In any case I suspect that the scouting department was blameless. It's too much of a coincidence to think the scouts missed drug problems in college on four first round picks. It's far more likely that the drug problems developed afterwards.

What truly made Jacksonville my favorite NFL team more than anything else was the commitment to avoiding troublemakers so that none would be on the roster. As awful as Gene Smith was, I loved this about him: When someone got in trouble, he was cut, and when a troublemaker was available, he got no job offers from the Jaguars. So I normally would say, "Cut Justin Blackmon after his suspension is over." But after reading the NFL.com article that states all of the Jaguars love Blackmon as a person, no matter what he does off the field, and the team will do everything possible ot help him fix his drug problem so he can be a better man, I decided to give him a pass. All the guys who were cut after running into trouble were not that good anyway and deserved to be cut. Blackmon, on the other paw, deserves another chance. David Caldwell's statement was exactly the right thing to say. If the team does not help Blackmon stop abusing alcohol or using a banned drug, he will continue to make those mistakes for the rest of his life. He needs to stay in Jacksonville to get the help he needs. That is all I have to say about it.

I have no doubt that if the Jaguars released Blackmon (which I don't think they will), he will go to another team, clean up and become an All-Pro. Well, because that's how it will work out...

 

Theres no reason to cut him, you hold exclusive rights to him until he returns and make sure if he does come back he does it for the Jags or no one.

Not to make it seem like I'm attacking you or anything. I didn't get to hear the O'Halloran comments and I can't find anything on them more than that quote, so I was wondering if he expanded on the quote during his on-air interview or just left it vague like that.
