Shane Ray at 3

but he still dominated against SEC competition. so hopefully he can be had later and plays with that chip on his shoulder to earn more in his future.

I know somebody on here said this, so I will go with it. Sometimes it is just better to trust what you have seen then to follow the experts. I know their have been players I didn't like that I was convinced by experts to like and players I did like and was talked into not liking them. I think I am going with that now. I have seen Ray play and I have seen Gregory play and I think those 2 are the best options as far as a LEO. Me personally, I watched a lot of Nebraska games and didn't even know they had this top-10 draft talent on their line, but I definitely noticed Ray when watching Missouri games. Just on personal eye test, Ray is worth a 3 pick.

I still say Fowler is my top player, but I view him as an OTTO candidate from what I saw.

As far as receivers, I saw Kevin White get shut down in 3 separate games, so my opinion of him is low and I have seen Cooper enough that I would not mind selecting him one bit as he is a legit #1 receiver from what I've seen, especially considering he hasn't worked with any top notch QBs yet and still does well.

There seems to be a lot of uncertainty still on the pass rushers. We've seen Ray and Gregory both "fall" while Beasley and Fowler have "risen". Makes me wonder if there really is a safe pick at three.

Unfortunately the reality is that we might have to take a chance on one of them. It's all very well saying "we'll just trade down and take one of them later in the first round". But we may not get an offer to do that.

Aldon Smith, Sheldon Richardson, and Maclin were well worth the picks spent on them.

I think it is important to remember what Dave Caldwell has told us about his approach to this draft class. He is going to take the BAP that fits the Jags scheme. So if we are to take him at his word then we may assume that Caldwell will take Leonard Williams if he is available at Pick 3, even though there is a great need at the DE-Leo position. Yet on the other hand, we know that Caldwell values players differently than many so-called draft experts. Accordingly, Caldwell could take Dante Fowler at Pick 3 even if Leonard Williams is available. Bottom line, we have all watched Caldwell in action and most of us have been surprised by his actions, but when seen with the proper perspective, they make sense. Case in point, was the signing of Jared Odrick of the Dolphins. Who saw that coming? Not I and I bet few others, but it made sense once the information was put out to the public. So we can all be pretty sure that there will be a few surprises in store for Jag-Nation when draft day rolls around.

So did Jarvis Jones and Michael Sam and they really haven't done anything in the NFL.  Not saying Ray will be like that as I think he's a better prospect than both, but putting up big stats in the SEC doesn't really mean a lot.

Dave has said a multitude of times that he is a needs drafter early, and a value drafter late. The expensive signing of Odrick basically tipped their hand that they aren't that interested in Leo Williams to me, as they are virtually identical players.

I'd personally put this on the injury.  On tape he flashed a lot of speed and this isn't reflective of that at all.  Guessing he just rushed it.

The 3 cone was surprisingly bad to me, but the rest of the package reflects exactly what I saw on cutups. Good first step (but a lot of that is snap anticipation, like Dee Ford type), and otherwise wholly unimpressive athlete...like I've been saying all offseason. Even to the point where I said (and linked a couple draftniks who agreed) that he is a DT in an OLB body. This was all before the pro day.

This tweener crop is an absolute minefield at pick 3.

jarvis jones plays a different role, especially with the steelers and michael sam was never regarded as a top prospect.

However, both were pass rushers in SEC and put up big stats, which was my only point.  Jones role only changed on Pittsburgh because he hasn't lived up to his draft pick.

Well, those numbers pretty much match the tape.

Not really. UGA rarely dropped Jones back into coverage. He was an edge-rusher all the way, same with Ray.

ray almost always lines up on the line, jarvis lined up at all kinds of different LB spots.

Look at these sacks and notice South Carolina,Florida and Kentucky was his only sacks in the SEC. Lots of sacks in blowouts.
