The main thing working for Hurns right now is that he can actually stay on the field. All the speed, strength, catching ability and so on doesn't matter if you can't stay on the field.

Robinson is not a deep threat.

He's not going to be a deep threat in the mold of Mike Wallace or Desean Jackson, but he can absolutely be a deep threat like Alshon Jeffery or Kelvin Benjamin were...and make no mistake they were/are both very solid deep threats.

 

Winning contested downfield catches is an extremely important part of today's NFL, and I think Robinson's height, physicality, exceptional hands, and impressive vertical will make for a good sideline/high point deep threat once he and Bortles develop that skill set.

Floor/Ceiling is obviously all a bunch of crap. Im sure Aaron Curry had a high floor/ high ceiling? What really matters in the end is what you do on the football field. So far for any WR on this team Hurns is on the top of the list

I think we can all agree that our receiving corps is fine without Blackmon and Shorts, at least. I do think that Robinson and Lee have higher ceilings than Hurns. I think Hurns had an outstanding rookie season for an undrafted player, but as our offense gets better the margin in which he is significantly better then the others will decrease.

The guy is easily the most complete receiver who isn't Blackmon yet he gets overlooked it seems. It's always about Lee and Robinson but it was Hurns who scored the most TD's for us. He significantly improved every game by creating separation and using his hands more as the season went on instead of body catching. The TD's against the Bengals were flawless the way he made the adjustments to the ball.

 

I would also direct attention to the goal line TD play against the Texans. The play breaks down, Bortles is scrambling, Johnathan Joesph is all over Hurns and he manages to break away and catch the ball in the corner of the endzone with the ball just inches above the ground.

 

He's not as fast as Lee, he doesn't have the hands of AR15 but he is exceptional at route running which is such an important trait for a WR.

Needs to work on his hands.  As you mentioned he's not exceptionally fast but he does seem to have a knack for getting open.  In an ideal world he'd get steady work as a number 3 receiver, not necessarily at a particular position.

Will be interesting to see how 88 plays this year with a new offense. He got a lot of opportunity last year that with a deeper roster, he wouldn't have seen. That said, he made some nice plays. Gotta fix the drops but the routes are good and Sullivan is awesome.

Hurns' value is with making big plays and I don't see that changing.  If he can get another year of 500+ yards and 5 TDs next year, I'll be happy.

The reason hurns took off so well to start the season was his familiarity with the offense and fisch.


As the season went on and the more talented players caught up, hurns was less impressive and less of a factor.


He's a nice contributer, but he lacks the elite traits to take snaps away from Robinson, Lee, or shorts at the time. Hopefully this year it'll be blackmon in the place of shorts.

Hurns is a guy who started off his career really well, but he may also be the guy with the lowest ceiling.

This; but then again, time may show that he has the highest ceiling! We don't know yet really one way or the other. We do know that he was a beneficiary (actually, the team was) of his prior knowledge of Jedd Fisch's play book; this gave him an 'automatic' head start over the other receivers. As the season wound on though, we noticed less and less of an advantage for Hurns. 

 

Apart from the fact that he gave us some early excitement as a receiver, he did have a problem with drops due to a flaw in his catching technique (body catching). I hope he will improve and will continue to be an exciting and productive pass catcher for us.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Hurns had the advantage of several years within the offense, while Lee and Robinson had to learn it.  IMO that allowed him to play faster and more confidently than Robinson and Lee. 

 

I think while Hurns is more talented than his undrafted position suggests, this year, with all three learning new offenses, with all three having a year of going against NFL coverages, we will get a clearer picture of who the most talented receivers are, assuming all are healthy.

 

If Hurns were a 2nd round pick, he wouldnt be so overrated by some Jags fans, but being undrafted people act like he is better then he really is. If it wasnt for his injury history he could of went in the 3rd round so the talent was always there. Most of us just watched the way he played in college and last year and dont go by him not being drafted like you. If he was drafted last year in the 3rd then you would be saying differently. Should we expect Linder to take a step back this year also since he played for Miami and most expected him to be a late round pick?

Hurns is the toughest receiver we have, and it's not even close. The man was willing to go through the middle and take the hits while holding onto the ball, for the most part.


AR15 will probably wind up being our best receiver, but Hurns is a quintessential piece to the corps. Hurns reminds me a lot of Anquan Boldin and that annoying WR from the squeelers... I forget his name...


Hopefully he keeps up this toughness, he became my favorite wide receiver with his fearlessness and ability to stay in the game after each hard hit he took.
