Melvin Gordon to meet with Jaguars!

Andre Ellington stunk it up when he was healthy last year. The Cards need a bellcow so Ellington can be used as a third-down back.

Anyway, my point was that there are teams which now no longer want a RB. That list could also have included the Bills, the Colts and the Seahawks (if Lynch had retired) too. All are now settled.

I don't know why the Cardinals would want Adrian Peterson if they were happy with Andre Ellington. Apparently he is not good enough to be a full-time starter.

Like I said earlier, when one team gained a running back, another team lost one, so there are still teams that need running backs - just not all the same teams.

I still doubt Gordon actually falls out of round one, and if he does I'd almost have to question why.

Personally I'd still take Ameer Abdullah at #36, and I suspect that scouts feel the same way even though he doesn't seem to be atop every draftnik's radar. The Nebraska RB averaged 6.1 ypc against top competition, and he placed #1 in virtually every drill at the combine outside of the 40. Watching Ameer on tape the man has all sorts of moves, and he makes them with incredible agility.

Maybe because he was very average during the combine.. He was supposed to be a speed demon, but he really just ran a 4.52 and wasn't that impressive in his other measurables either.

Maybe it just shows you how slow that conference is because both Abdullah and Gordon looked fast enough on the field, albeit against slow competition.

Abdullah is fast. I don't understand this concern for his 4.6 40 when he practically set records in the other drills. His 3.95 short shuttle is, as I recall, the 2nd fastest time in league history. Ameer's agility is elite.

We can agree on this one. Abdullah has rare special movement skills. The long speed, or lack of it, doesn't worry me at all. I don't want RB at 36, but if we did I think I hope it is Abdullah (or Ajayi). Not Gordon at least.

Playing in the Big Ten has absolutely nothing to do with their speed. Look at the combine drill times for defensive players in the conference.

If we draft Abdullah, isn't he a bit similar in style to Robinson ?

And does it matter that he's not much of a blocker ?

Yes, Abdullah is Jordan Todman/Denard Robinson's size. Can't pass protect.  Don't think we draft him.  We need somebody bigger who can protect the QB, like Jay Ajayi, who is a better all-around RB.

Jeremy Langford in the 3rd also might be an option, depending on what we do in the earlier rounds.  Langford is 6'0", 208 lbs, ran a 4.42.

From CBS Sports:

When discussing the top Big Ten running backs, Langford is rarely mentioned in the same breath as Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon, Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah or Indiana's Tevin Coleman. But with 12 straight 100-yard rushing performances against Big Ten competition, Langford earned his way into the conversation. Langford is the type of prospect that grows on you and the gap behind Gordon and Abdullah isn't as big as most think.  Langford emerged as not only the most reliable and efficient back, but also the best all-around player at the position in 2013. Langford finished the 2013 season with 1,422 rushing yards and 18 rushing scores. He closed his career with a single-season school record-tying 22 touchdowns in 2014 to go with 1,522 yards.  Langford really shines in areas where most young backs struggle like pass protection, reliability in the screen game and also the ability to get stronger and better as the game goes on.

What makes Abdullah a good fit for the Jaguars is that he's been said to be one of the, if not the, best zone scheme back in the class.

Langford was one of the guys I said I would be quite happy with if he was available in the 4th, at pick 100 overall. I am a fan, but 67 overall is a bit too rich for me.

There's something about Duke Johnson that makes me think he's gonna be a star.

He's actually been moving up the boards.  Now ranked #79 on CBS, and projected as 2-3 rounder.  He probably won't make it out of round 3, so we would have to take him at #67, or trade some later picks to move up into the middle-late round 3.

Matt Miller of Hugh Upside - Bleacher Report is reporting that the Jags have a visit lined up with Jay Ajayi - RB - Boise State.

Yeah, I know he might go day 2. If he does then I would pass. I would just go with David Cobb, Mike Davis, Buck Allen, or someone else pretty solid that falls to the 4th. Tons of acceptable candidates to me.

Where did you get pick 100 from? The NFL has not announced compensatory picks yet.

Since when is 4.52 not impressive?

If speed and big play is your calling card, which it is for Gordon...4.52 is not impressive at all. It'd be one thing if he was a 220lb back running 4.52, but he's not.
