I havent seen any mock drafts showing the Jaguars signing a WR like A. Cooper but I think it is a real posibility.  Heck most of us didnt expect GM Dave Caldwell to draft Blake Bortles but would we really be shocked if he drafted Cooper at #3?

I wonder if Groves would've succeeded under Gus Bradley.  He seems like a good LEO fit.  He had a very explosive first step and was fast and long enough IIRC.

 

He just wasn't a fit at all for JDR's system.

This is the best word (tweeners)for ALL the edge pass rushers. I am beginning to believe the Jags may just go BPA regardless of position (Not QB)

 

Gregory,Ray and Beasley are just to small.Maybe Gregory could grow because of the build. Why was Dee Ford drafted at 21 when basically he is the same player as Ray and Beasley? Think about it?

 

Agree.  I'm not confident in any of the tweeners at pick 3.

 

That's why I think it's silly to consider any of those guys ahead of Williams if he's still there.  I'm in favor of a trade ahead of taking one as well.

 

You know things aren't the way they used to be, and that there's no elite RDE you usually seen in better (typical) draft classes when the analysts don't even use RDE to describe pass rushers any more.

 

Now the "cool" word to use is "Edge."  Code word for tweener/OLB pass rusher.

 

There's a difference.  Ask any tagged rush OLB who wants to petition the NFL to be paid like an RDE.

 

Unfortunately, there aren't enough elite talented RDE pass rushers in this draft.  Only these tweener "edge" players to pull the pin and pray it doesn't blow up in your face.

Traditional RDE's are still called EDGE rushers in today's vernacular. It's become the catchall to get anyone who is expected to provide pass rush from the exterior. 3-4 OLB, LEO, 4-3 RDE all fit.

He's not a great or dominant pass rusher in my opinion. He has one move: speed rush. He barely uses his hands and doesn't bend that well

I also think he bends well enough, but that's a little more subjective. But one thing that stuck out to me was his violent hands. As a LEO prospect, I love him. But I have to end every conversation with how I'd be ecstatic with Williams, Beasley, Or Gregory, too! This is a great year to need a pass rusher. But yeah, I know it's your opinion, just throwing mine out there.

I'm more afraid of tweeners like Aaron Gordon or Jabari Parker... But they play pro basketball. In football, I'm not as concerned. I like speed and power that translates. Hopefully Caldwell identifies the best player for the Teal

I think Caldwell should do this:

If he is confident Amari Cooper or Kevin White will be legit #1 receivers, he should take him.


If he doesn't have the same amount of confidence in Gregory, Fowler, Beasley, Ray etc, then he shouldn't select one of them.


To me, it's pretty simple.


Would anyone really be mad if we have Blake another legit weapon? How could that be a bad thing?

That's because previous GMs drafted like 8 of them as "DPRs" and they all pretty much failed.


I don't think means anything in relation to DF or VB. May apply to SR and RG for different reasons.

Gus said it this morning at the breakfast meeting with the Press. The Jags are developmental teachers and are working and will be working with any player they take in the draft to make him the complete player.

 

So you have to ask yourself, can Dante Fowler be a better player? Sure, but he has a lot to work with and you have to like that.

 

Personally, I hold out hope that Mariota goes with Pick 2 and Leonard Williams becomes the Jags selection at Pick 3.

 

Dante Fowler to me is a nice consolation prize with a nice upside.

 

The Jags can't lose choosing Leonard Williams as the primary and Dante Fowler as the secondary target with the 3rd Pick in this upcoming draft.

I hope the Titans take Williams then we are almost guaranteed a nice trade offer.  That said I doubt that will happen because I know the Titans dont want to leave us with that option.
