C Stefen Wisniewski Visiting Jaguars

They've worked to bring in fresh blood across the board this offseason we actually landed Parnell but they're was also rumors they wanted Bugla if he hit the market. 3 weeks in the free agency their still looking at offensive lineman. I'd say the whole we like who we have was smoke screens thank God.

The shoulder surgery is what gives me pause.   I remember what happened to Tony Boselli.   I know we have the money and need to spend it.   But I don't know how serious that shoulder injury is.   There are other guys that can provide depth and competition on the offensive line.   I don't want one that won't even be able to play.

If they sign him, I will be happy, because I am sure they will take that injured shoulder into account.

Most people expected a right tackle in free agency. The other four starters are still the same and are likely to remain the same barring injury.

I think we're going to change out Beadles one way or another, be it moving someone there or bringing someone else in. He was just awful last season. I really think they're looking for competition at Center as well, weather or not we find it I don't know.

Getting a young healthy guy who can compete (not just back up, but really compete) at both center and guard would be the thing to do.

Beadles wasn't awful last year. He was bad in the beginning of the year learning a new system and playing next to 3 rookies, but he got better and was not awful.

Beadles has essentially one year left on his contract. I would not be surprised if they draft someone who could be his eventual replacement.

There is zero dead money on his deal after 2015.

If they can get Stefen Wisniewski in for a 2 year deal at a relatively affordable salary, it would be worth the risk.

He also played hurt for most of the year.

I'll say it. Bowanko > Wisniewski

I think the Raiders know something we don't. That's why they paid big bucks for Hudson. I've never watched Wisniewski play -- anyone have a scouting report?

Pretty sure anything they know, Olson also knows.

He was brought here BECAUSE he was accustomed to the zone blocking scheme we're implementing.

Lets say you were hired at a new company BECAUSE you were accustomed to manufacturing big & tall plaid shirts. You don't think there would be a learning curve for you at your new big & tall plaid shirt company even though you have a few years experience manufacturing big & tall plaid shirts? Would it take you a while to understand how things worked and how you are expected to interact with your new coworkers at the new big & tall plaid shirt plant?

In your analogy, no.  You paid big money and hired the guy with big & tall plaid shirt manufacturing experience and knowledge, because he was effective in making those shirts and you wanted to avoid the learning curve of just bringing in a guy who only had experience manufacturing petite Hawaiian shirts.  The learning curve should be minimal in this example.

Good point. Sounds like a one-year prove-it contract. Or tack on a year-two option.

Starting from bad and improving to decent at this point in his career is not okay with me.

Hes just not a "good" guard in this league

The learning curve was more than 3/4 of a season long? He sucked, hopefully this year he doesn't suck, we brought him here to help Joeckle a young LT and he hasn't done that yet.

There were several reports last season that Beadles was nursing a calf injury almost the entire year.  It ended up sidelining him in the final game.  That does have an impact on a guy playing that position.  I don't think it was an issue with a learning curve as much as it was a problem with injury and playing on a line with what amounted to as many as 4 rookies (Joeckel was pretty much a rookie last year based on his injury in his rookie season).

Even if he was brought in to help Joeckel, there's only so much he could do with the LT coming back from a serious leg injury and not getting a full off season of conditioning to build his strength.

Joeckel SHOULD come back stronger and better prepared this year coming off a season without injury.

The Jags SHOULD expect Beadles to look better this season (assuming he stays healthy).

Well I hope it was just an injury that is past. I just know that line............ugh.............it was hard to stomach.

There was a lot going on with the line.  Heck, they hadn't even settled on a starting rotation until what?  Week 2 or 3?  Offensive lines require continuity in order to be effective, and there was a lot of rotating that was happening due to lousy play and injury.  Given an off season to get healthy and stronger, plus adding some much needed talent at RT will hopefully pan out for the team.
