Bucs passed on Justin Blackmon because he spent too much time at the bar

We still don't know if they would've picked him. Who knows, maybe the Jags knew it too.

Quote:Is this the same Buccaneers team that finished 2-14 last season and has the #1 Pick in the upcoming NFL draft?I don't know what any of this has to do with the Bucs passing on Blackmon for off-field issues.

The Bucs selected Mark Barron (Safety) that year at #7. Last year they traded him to the Rams for a 4th and 6th round pick.
... it's not like they hit the jackpot that year.
Lawrence Taylor has 142 sacks and was one of the biggest self-admitted cocaine addicts the game has ever seen.
Jimmy Smith. I don't care what Blackmon did. If he's apologetic, still has skills, and can help make Jacksonville relevant again, he was worth the pick and deserves another shot. Screw Tampa Bay anyway. They're literally about to draft a guy first overall who throws a ton picks, got caught stealing crab legs, and looks like a slightly less flabby JaMarcus Russell. Justin Blackmon might be an alcoholic, but he was never dumb enough to talk about punching a girl in the vagina on TV.
So they thought a kid who had a DUI in college might have substance abuse problems in the NFL.
It's a wonder they don't win the superbowl every year with a front office that brilliant.
Blackmon played at Oklahoma right? That school was too big for Gene to waste his time sending a scout there for Blackmon. After all the Colorado school of mines had gems that he needed to dig up.
That said, I hope Blackmon beats his alcoholism and the odds and comes back for a long productive career with us. Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist! Media on the Brain Link! Quote:Peyton must store oxygen in that forehead of his. After all the Colorado school of mines had gems that he needed to dig up. I don't think he's coming back. He could have applied for reinstatement, what, more than a month ago? and yet we hear nothing. Then we see a picture of a guy who is supposedly him, at a casino, and he looks way out of shape. I don't see any reason for optimism.
Quote:I really can't wait till this JB nightmare is over... Agree. I do get a kick out of people that act like he is going to just trot back onto the field one day and he'll be Dez Bryant.

There's no telling WHAT will trot out on the field IF he ever does get himself reinstated. But, I'd much rather find that out before cutting and running on the guy. I always get a kick out of the folks saying we should just cut him and move on. Right now he's not hurting this team one bit. He's not taking up a roster spot. He's not eating up any cap space. If (big if) he comes back and resembles the player the team drafted, and he's able to stay clean, the Jags are far better for it. If he comes back and he doesn't come close to what he was previously? No harm, no foul. Then you move on. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Talked about how the Bucs basically stalked Blackmon every day for a week and realized he drank a little to much for their comfort. I wonder if more teams are going to start doing this.
Blackmon's only what, 25 years old? He'll have a chance to knock off the rust and become a productive player if he wants to be one, if he comes back.
The Jags have had nothing but good news about him since September of last year, so we'll see.
