I'm really torn though. I want a dominate pass rusher. Hence Beasley, but the appeal of Cooper and a high power offense is hard to deny, especially if we could somehow get Gurley too

 

We'd all love a great pass rusher.

 

But at least our defense has been shown to be at least capable of being close to average at times.

 

Our offense is atrocious.

It's funny how my view has evolved over the course of this offseason.

 

At the end of last season and the first part of the offseason, I was all about drafting defense, at least early on.

 

In my mind, that's where all the age was, and we need a young pass rusher.

 

But now, even with what I think was a successful offensive heavy draft last year, featuring three good rookie prospects, I could still justify another heavy infusion of offensive skill positions early in this draft.

 

This team has so many options that seem to be good.

 

Stay at 3...get a LEO or Cooper or Williams or Gurley.  Trade down to 6 maybe if Mariota is there...and still possibly have those options available, plus maybe an extra 2nd round pick.

 

Trade down further...and the possibility of a boatload of picks increases.

It would be a crime to Gus Bradley if Dave doesnt get this man his own young LEO to work with, this year we have the best shot at it, Beasley or Folwer, heck give Gus a big time young defensive prospect Big Williams.

I think Cooper is going to be the pick because Caldwell expressed major interest in Randall Cobb after he got signed and Jennings signing with Miami. Cooper reminds me of Cobb in a way. Explosive, reliable, slot guy.

Or instead of Lee, go for Lewis for 2 TE set, or 4 WR including Hurns and Thomas. To pick up another piece like that would, on paper, make our offense preeettty studly I'd say. But it's up to the QB at this point. I can say this. I feel ALOT better about Borltes than I did with Gabbert or Leftwich.

Not a surprise pick to me.  And Mayock touched on the reason.  Not saying this is the reasoning for the team, but I don't understand how it's a surprise to anyone who watched the offense last season.

Kevin White to me isn't a polished route runner like Amari Cooper. We have our deep threat in Marquise Lee so it would really be pointless to take Kevin White. For me a RB helps Bortles more than Amari Cooper because we do have plenty of WR and we can draft a slot receiver later in the rounds. I think we need to finish up our front seven with a LEO. Only if the Jags had landed Hughes, Cooper or Gurley with a trade down would have been a lock.

 

Deep threat - based on what? Two or three plays last year, one being a gimmick Spurrier play? I like Lee, but I think the #1 receiver, who doubles as the team's deep threat, is not on the roster.

Unless Leonard Williams is still on the board or there is no good trade I am fine with the Jags selecting a wide out. Amari Cooper and Kenny White are both play makers. Another weapon for Bortles Kombat is fine by me.

Yea, to me,  "can be a deep threat" isn't the same as "he is a deep threat".  Lee is in that "can be" category right now.  I wouldn't rule out Lee being that guy, but there is no overwhelming evidence that he is.  Not enough of a reason alone pass on a possible game changer.

I've wanted Beasley for a while, but I'm starting to think offense might make more sense. How about this. Trade back with NYJ for their second, take Cooper or White at 6, then package 2 seconds or a 2nd and a 3rd together to move back into the first for Gurley...
