The great big Blackmon thread (merged)

Quote:we haven't heard anything because the nfl does not allow such things to be talked about...Just as JAGS02 stated up above " Caldwell said that due to nfl rules, they wouldn't even know if he's applied. Teams are not privvy to this information."
The Jags certainly can't make any info known that they don't have
Contrary to what you believe, the NFL has little or no control over such things being "talked about".  If Justin has applied for reinstatement and wishes to make the information public, there are numerous ways in which he can do so.

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

It doesn't seem like Blackmon wants to come back.

Quote:I have to believe that, if he had applied, his agent would make the fact known to the team.
The agent is likely not allowed to reveal that info - and if the team is aware - they are likely not allowed to reveal it either.

Not if a non-disclosure clause is part of his application for re-instatement.

Obviously it's possible he hasn't applied... but we can't be certain, IMO.

I'm skeptical that the league has the power to prevent an agent from making a statement to the press.

A simple clause in the re-application document is all it would take.

Quote:Definitely.

I mean I think we have little reason to believe Blackmon will ever be back. But Ryan O has a bizarre obsession with Blackmon.
Yes I don't particularly disagree with Ryan but he has shown multiple times that he dislikes Blackmon. It seems to be personal with Ryan O and I don't understand it. It makes me think there is a story we aren't privy to that involves the two.

Does anyone know if the league maintains such a clause?

In any event, the information can easily be made know without a specific statement:

Reporter, "Justin, what are your plans for this fall?  Are you going to play football?"

Justin,      " I don't know yet, ask me again in x days."

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

I think if jb thought he could pass a drug test he would apply.

well if he doesn't apply and get reinstated this year,  we can stop having any hope he will return.   since there is news about pretty much every reinstatement and suspension I find it hard to believe the only case they can keep quiet is Blackmon's, the only logical conclusion is he hasn't applied.

So what. It was a wasted pick that helped contribute to the mess that is the Jaguars. Stay where you're at dude.

If he truly doesn't want to play anymore, wouldn't he feel less pressure from everyone if he had announced his retirement as soon as he felt that way?

THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.

RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

It's contempt.  Who isn't upset with Justin for putting alcohol and pot ahead of the team and its fans?  I'd find it hard to believe his own family is supportive of the path he chose to take since draft day.

Ryan was simply stating what most intelligent observers have known for the last 2 years.  Don't hold it against him.

No.

The level of disdain that Ryan O had shown for Blackmon is unhealthy. His obsession with Blackmon's addiction problems is down right psycho level.

A few weeks ago on 1010XL he was on and the conversation turned to Blackmon, he sounded as if he were on the verge of a psychotic break. Even the hosts of the show talk about how he needed to pull back a little bit.

I don't like what has happened with Blackmon any more than anyone else, but Ryan O needs to dial it back a bit.

That would require a degree of self-reflection he apparently isn't ready for.

Rehab and addiction problems fall under the HIPPA Law and just as the Jags and the NFL have said it's confidential which means it's not for public knowledge

WRONG! The NFLPA and NFL agreed to keep such matters personal and private. It's very simple...When an employer and or union decide certain things should remain personal and private, it would be written into the contract to not talk about it...It would be similar to a Judge's gag order in a court case..Not to mention the HIPPA law

We might be thinking of the same incident. But I remember before free agency he was on Jaguars Today. The first caller to the show asked him and Dempsey if Blackmon would impact how the team approaches free agency. O'Halloran freaked out and said something like "could we start the show with a dumber call?". You could tell Dempsey was uncomfortable.

Insisting on a split structure contract for Blackmon is probably the best move Gene Smith made when he was in charge here. Trading up for Blackmon was one of his worst.
