I don't think it's unreasonable, either. It should be noted, however, that being injured while in the police's custody doesn't automatically mean it was their fault. Should they have had the ability and opportunity to provide aid, then I'll listen to that argument, but that's a different argument altogether. They may determine that his fate was set in stone even before the arrest.

Should it end up being true, one has to wonder if he informed the officers. Of course, we can not know that exactly but it would make it even more egregious that they did not buckle him in.

I've done read 3 reports of the spinal injury was from a car accident and that he had surgery on it 10 days prior. Running 45 minutes from the police..... like you should be home in bad 10 days after spinal surgery.

I wonder why it is taking so long for the names of the officers involved in Gray's death to be released. Reading reports online some of those officers may be involved in other police brutality cases.

Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

I understand that.  I mean releasing the names now could potentially put those officers lives in danger.  Now if any of them are involved in other police brutality cases, then that's worth mentioning.  But I'd say leaving their names out of it is fine.

Agreed. Regardless of any actual or perceived culpability of the officers involved, they would be most likely in danger to release names before the report that I think comes out Friday.

By now they should have already had extra security for their families and such.


I'm more interested in seeing if they were tied to other brutality cases. a lot of people are frustrated by the lack of transparency.


They don't even have to give names just say a couple of officers were involved in previous...yada yada....

They can say that because he should have received medical attention when he asked for it.  Not 45 minutes later.  Now one might say that he would have died even if he got medical attention -- but that doesn't negate at the very least negligence on the part of police.

People were also reporting that he his spine was previously injured before the arrest and that seems to be completely false.

  According to some reports,   Freddie Gray has been convicted on some of the charges and that there was apparently plea bargaining deals that led to some of the charges being dropped.    Also,   there's uncertainty regarding how much time Gray has spent in prison.

 

  I hope in the coming days the information on Gray's complete record becomes public.    I think it's reasonable to ask the question whether the criminal justice system failed regarding Freddie Gray. 

 

More biographical information has come to light in recent days. Freddy Gray was a twin. He and his twin sister were born two months prematurely to a mother addicted to heroin. His family subsists at least partially on a "lead check", settlement payments from a successful lawsuit for lead poisoning when he was a child. When he was 22 months old his blood contained 37 micrograms of lead, over 7 times higher than the level at which the CDC calls for additional testing.

 

A child who was poisoned with lead is seven times more likely to drop out of school and six times more likely to end up in the juvenile justice system

He has lived a life in intractable poverty, suffering from ADHD likely caused by the lead poisoning. His twin sister experiences periods of aggression.

 

It wasn't just the criminal justice system that failed Freddy Gray.

Same goes for those who decided to riot, and destroy their city. Neither action should have resulted in what did, period.
