The surfers usually have an order on who gets what wave, based off who was there first I think, and he's saying Tim went out and skipped everyone in front of him.

And then ran over someone in the process. Double Whammy. Triple whammy after the slap to the face.

well if it makes you feel any better the terms he used are new to me, it just makes sense because I know a couple guys that surfed and they used to complain about that kind of stuff.

It was a pretty harsh description of another human being.

I'm sure the term "jap a wave" is intended as a tribute to a race of people considered to be brave, courageous warriors.

So Donna japped Dan in the news room?

Actually, Tim snagged Donna from Dan. That's different. The surfing analogy would only apply if Tim snagged Donna before Dan could.

In most cases, it really isn't worth the effort.

I've seen her in person and I can say his description is fairly inaccurate.

Quote:Years ago at the poles(local surf spot) there was a decent break going and Deegan shows up, paddles out and immediately japs a wave and drops on a dude. Now understand that Deegan is a kook and should be showing some respect in this environment. Dude paddles over to Deegan and female dog slaps him in the surf. Deegan went in and did not say or do anything. It was quite funny. Ever since then I have laughed basically every time I have seen him.
Funny story.  I've seen Deegan in the water a couple of times and I've never seen him drop in on anyone, but maybe this was after he was regulated. There are a couple of area breaks(norte) that Deegan may not be welcome.

The term "jap a wave" is incorrect.  The proper usage would be "Deegan japed a guy". Meaning that Deegan or any surfer dropped into a wave in front of a surfer that was already up and riding or in position to stand and ride the wave.

The term "japed" or "japed off" is not used much anymore. Mostly you must say "that a hole dropped in on me" or "Deegan dropped in on a guy"

Lastly, the surfer already up and riding and/or closest to the curl or breaking part of the wave has the right of way.

That doesn't sound like any japs I know, but I am sure you wouldn't misguide me on purpose, so I will accept that term as credible and honorable.

On a serious note, I do work with a lot of Japanese employees of Automakers located in the U.S., and for the most part they are no different than working with anyone else ... except on occasions of translation issues. It wasn't that way 20+ years ago, there were huge trust issues (for a lack of a better description), and the cool part is? You couldn't tell they ever existed to begin with.

I would have to agree. Tim is also highly nasty and leathery faced as well. He did the best he could, even if he had to screw over a coworker to do it. (not to mention the other coworker who was screwed in the van) :woot:

Old Tim looks like an experiment gone bad. He looks like Spicolli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High after 5 minutes in a 1000 watt microwave.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
