The training staff usually knows as soon as they get hands on the knee.  They do field tests looking at the stability of the knee and they can pretty accurately diagnose an ACL based on what they see.  If it was an ACL, they already know regardless of the testing.  That will simply confirm it.

A good defense helps, but the QB is the most critical component in the ascent of this team, not the LEO we just drafted.  There are other upgrades on the defense that will assure that we are better than we were last year.  Even if it's an ACL, it's not a devastating loss.  If Bortles suffered a similar injury?  The season is over.

 

  Other than the 1999 St. Louis Rams overcoming the loss of Trent Green in the pre-season with the emergence of Kurt Warner and the 2001 Patriots overcoming the loss of Drew Bledsoe in game # 2 with the emergence of Tom Brady,   I can't recall any team in the last 20 years that was able to go deep in the playoffs after losing their starting QB.    It's probably the only position that can totally derail a season.
