Tom Brady Suspended first four games

Quote:... Yawn... Did he he cheat after dropping 27 points after the fully inflated balls were given after half time. And if you were even competent, you'd see I'm a Texans fan, and have no interest in the Pats...hence the statement.
Blah, blah, blah. They cheated. They got caught.  Why are you in denial?  Was the video-taping the NFL's fault too?

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

If it weren't against the clots, I would probably care, but the fact that they were on the receiving end of it makes it that much sweeter in my opinion.

Quote:Did he cheat in the divisional playoff game against the Ravens? Where he had to come from behind down by 14, twice, to win? Its quite possible one errant pass sends the Pats home to watch the rest of the playoffs.
There's no doubt that the advantage gained had the potential to change the outcome of the game.

I'd like to see an asterisk in the record books on this Superbowl, noting the Patriots advanced through at least 1 playoff game using under-inflated balls.

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

Quote:I hope Brady appeals and gets it reduced to 2 games.  We will face a QB who has not thrown a regulation football in over EIGHT YEARS.  I like our chances.

And I've seen the facade crumble away.  Brady can't quite make his mouth and eyes smile anymore.  It just looks like a creepy leer.

I KNOW RIGHT!!! TOMMY IS NOTHIGN WITHOUT HIS DEFLATED BALLS!

Quote:And if it made no difference then why did he cheat?

I see it as he's giving the other team a chance.  Like how when the stronger guy lets the other guy go two hands in arm wrestling, or when you tie one arm behind your back, or when you give the slower guy a head start in a race.

Obviously deflating footballs makes it harder to throw, just ask Aaron Rodgers.  So when you're as good as Tom Brady, you have to throw the other team a bone just to make it interesting.

Yeah, that must be it.  Thanks for clearing that up for all of us.

I wonder how Giselle feels about Tom'Tom's under inflated balls? I'd like to hear her thoughts about this.

All in all I think Brady got off fairly light in just 4 games.

The million dollar fine sounds like a lot to us but to Kraft? Hardly. Forbes estimates his net worth at 4.3 billion. A million dollar fine is nothing in the grand scheme.

One 1st? Okay but a 2017 4th? Weak.

Brady has acted guilty from Day 1.  His initial public statements were shown not to be true.  Apparently his 5 hour interview contained plenty of inconsistencies and several provable lies.  He didn't know the name of a 20-year Patriots employee who he regularly gave signed memorabilia to?  Sure.

Now Kraft, who pledged "full cooperation" then pulled all cooperation when it was going against him, offers this reaction:

“Despite our conviction that there was no tampering with footballs, it was our intention to accept any discipline levied by the league. Today’s punishment, however, far exceeded any reasonable expectation. It was based completely on circumstantial rather than hard or conclusive evidence.

“We are humbled by the support the New England Patriots have received from our fans throughout the world. We recognize our fans’ concerns regarding the NFL’s penalties and share in their disappointment in how this one-sided investigation was handled, as well as the dismissal of the scientific evidence supported by the Ideal Gas Law in the final report.

“Tom Brady has our unconditional support. Our belief in him has not wavered.”

Kraft is acting like a properly spanked brat, and that is good.  But he is in deep denial about the ongoing costs of his action.  He now has to live the rest of his life not only with the cheater reputation, but now he also owns the lies and the cover-ups and the pretend indignation.

It was "our intention to accept any discipline levied by the league" - any discipline except this particular one.  And we'll cooperate fully, except for this particular employee and this particular phone.  Note that Kraft doesn't say they will challenge the decision.  I don't think he would have a legal leg to stand on, and I don't think he would risk having the extent of the cheating exposed in a civil trial against the NFL.  He'd be carrying a lit match into a fireworks factory.

Quote:??? What are you talking about?

The NFL knew that there was a possibility that the pressure of the balls had been illegally reduced by the Pats. The refs were told this too. Then, on top of that, the balls went mysteriously missing just before the game adding further suspicion to the matter. Yet the refs did not check the balls after they went missing, and a whole half was played before they were checked. If deflation might in any way give the Pats an advantage, then why did the refs choose to allow the first half to be played with what may have been tainted balls. Wasn't that grossly unfair to the Colts?

From the facts presented in the Wells report, the case against the Pats was/is pretty sketchy. But the fact that the refs knew about the possibility and yet chose to do nothing to protect the Colts from playing at a disadvantage is a known fact. So I ask again, why does Walt Anderson still have a job with the NFL?

Quote:Wow, I didn't think the NFL would come down on New England that hard. Assuming the penalty holds up through appeals, we'll likely be facing Garoppolo in week 3.
Or, if the suspension is reduced to 2 games on appeal ( a likely scenario), we're going to be facing a pissed off Brady in week 3!

If the 4 game suspension is upheld, the Patriots game suddenly falls into the "winnable" column.

The 4 game suspension was light. The big hit to Brady is to his legacy.

A million dollar fine to the team is chump change. Teams regularly lose much more than that every year in dead money.

I also agree about the 2017 4th round pick. It was a silly meaningless addition.

Does anyone know when the suspension goes into effect? Is he going to be able to participate in Training Camp?

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Oh, how I hope he will have the hubris to challenge it!

On a related note, Roger Goodell's days as commissioner are now numbered...

He's going to challenge it.  They've already made that clear.

The owners are the only ones who would have any interest in firing Goodell, and from most indications, they're happy with the commissioner.  He's not going anywhere.  Heck, Robert Kraft is the guy behind the salary that the commissioner is pulling down currently.  He lobbied for it.

I would imagine it's like most other suspensions that aren't drug related.  He'll be able to participate in off season activities.  He just won't be playing in the actual games once the season starts.

The team is actually making money on this punishment, cost savings via suspension (unpaid brady for 4 games).
