The great big Blackmon thread (merged)

Quote:I'm sure this has been addressed a million times, but I don't know how keeping a guy who has substance issues away from your facilities and the positive influences of his teammates facilitates rehabilitation.  You are essentially isolating someone who needs 1) constructive things to do, and 2) people who care about him to look out for him. Looking at his 2012 highlight video, he was something we haven't had in a while.  I don't expect it, but I would love to see him get back on track.  If he is 85% of what he was then, it's still darn good.

Glad it may be just rumors that he has been denied reinstatement.

Do you know of any other place of business in which a suspended employee is allowed to return to his workplace and just hang out because he needs something constructive to do and to be around people who care for him? I wouldn't be able to.

These are adults we're talking about. This isn't day care. And I don't assume every player cares for him and wants to look out for him. I'm guessing they want him to get his stuff together and contribute to the company's success - or find another line of work.

Quote:Thanks for the link, so after listening to that I am more confused now than ever.... did he or didnt he fail the test?
It sounds like he didn't apply for reinstatement, Long got some bad information or simply speculated based on the fact that no talk about reinstatement has come up, he reported it on the air, and when asked if he backed it up, he said yes...until Dempsey posted that confirmation.  At that point, Long backtracked, and said if he didn't write about it it didn't happen.  Sounds like Long had a discussion with AP and Blackmon lawyers.

Could be awkward if Mark Long ever comes back on the show.

I think it's safe to assume Long won't be a guest any time soon, if ever.  If this entire story was based on nothing but speculation on his part, and he's wrong, we'll probably hear a new name covering the Jags for AP.  That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I'm no great fan of lawyers, but no one is suing anyone in this situation. A free press is allowed to speculate all they want. Some would say they are allowed to make stuff up.

I would like to see Blackmon act as his own attorney. That would be entertaining.

Im no lawyer, but I think there could be a defamation of character lawsuit from the Blackmon camp.

I'll be honest, I heard the Mark Long bit when he originally said it on air. It seemed very nonchalant- he posed it as fact, but it didn't seem factual to me.

Quote:Wow! In listening to the entire clip, Dempsey just destroyed Long for backing away from the story and not standing behind his own report.

That was great radio.

Yeah, Dempsey really went after Mark Long. Sounds like they asked him to clarify his interview this past week and if he'd be willing to attach his name to it, to which they said he did, but then backed away once Dempsey and company put it out there on twitter.

Really? Do you think Blackmon wants to try and defend his character? Good luck with that.

He would have to show he was harmed in some manner. And, as a part of freedom of the press and all that, he'd have to show intent to injure. I don't think he'd stand a chance. Now, if he wants to throw money away and get some unwanted publicity, he could go for it.

Remember Long's tweet that the jags weren't taking fowler? That was draft day too.

Pathetic.  A shame on journalistic integrity.  #MarkGung

I said it once I saw the initial twitter language posted here; finicky, speculative.

If a reporter has put something out there that's patently false regarding the league denying his reinstatement, yes, I would think he could sue and that he probably would have a case.  Do I think he will?  Probably not.

First let's clear things up; Blackmon's suspension is due to repeat offenses, not being able to complete one penalty before committing another offense. That is the reason he has a suspension greater than Brady, or Ray Rice, or others. You can be certain if Brady comes back after his suspension and continues to deflate footballs and not cooperate with the impending investigation his suspension would be much greater than 4 games.

Second, it's not unreasonable to believe a report by Mark Long who has covered this team for years. He has often been the bearer of news coming out of the stadium Jaguar-related. So if he got this one wrong, it's certainly within normal beliefs that he speaks the truth until it becomes unsubstantiated over time. Nonetheless, the first report gives no one pause to doubt.
