If the source is the associated press then it is most likely referring to Mark Long.

That link is coming up as fantasy baseball for me, for some reason.

Yes, I realize it's fantasy football news from cbs sports.

I don't take it to mean it's fantasy.

No, seriously. The link is dropping us on CBS Sports fantasy baseball site.

If you search for Blackmon, the little blurb on their fantasy site is nothing more than regurgitation of Mark Long's speculation. It even links to the tweet Dempsey put out there over the weekend that he was ripping Mark Long over today:

Report: NFL denies Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon reinstatement by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com (5/12/15) Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon has applied for reinstatement into the NFL, but his bid was denied, according to the Associated Press.

Blackmon, who was suspended indefinitely for multiple drug and alcohol arrests, may have failed another drug test, according to the report. Blackmon hasn't played in the league since 2013 where he played in just four games, totaling 29 receptions for 415 yards.

Mike Dempsey ‏@md_1010xl

Confirmed via @APMarkLong that Justin Blackmon DID apply for reinstatement and was denied.

Mike Dempsey ‏@md_1010xl

As @APMarkLongput it, "the feeling in the building is that JB failed another test" but could be a missed test that counts as a failed test

It's no wonder Dempsey spent 15 minutes shredding Long today after seeing this go viral after Long confirmed it but then backtracked. His credibility takes a ding too with stuff like this.

Quote:First let's clear things up; Blackmon's suspension is due to repeat offenses, not being able to complete one penalty before committing another offense. That is the reason he has a suspension greater than Brady, or Ray Rice, or others. You can be certain if Brady comes back after his suspension and continues to deflate footballs and not cooperate with the impending investigation his suspension would be much greater than 4 games.

Second, it's not unreasonable to believe a report by Mark Long who has covered this team for years. He has often been the bearer of news coming out of the stadium Jaguar-related. So if he got this one wrong, it's certainly within normal beliefs that he speaks the truth until it becomes unsubstantiated over time. Nonetheless, the first report gives no one pause to doubt.

Long has all but retracted his statement. Listen to the audio from Dempsey's show today. As soon as Dempsey pressed him to stand behind it, Long suddenly backed off saying he never reported it despite the fact that there's audio of him doing exactly that. What was reported as news was nothing more than speculation on Long's part if the audio is correct, and there's no reason to believe it's not.

I have no clue why the link isn't working but what you posted is what I read.

Anyway, it appears the report is not credible by Mark Long but Brandon Wise is running with it.

FYI the photo I posted above is from early April. The other guy in the photo estimated Blackmon had gained between 20-30 lbs since being suspended

So did Mike Florio. Maybe someone should send the Dempsey audio to PFT.

Why is there no comment from Blackmon himself?

That is what's really suspicious since most of the players suspended for whatever reason are anxious to tell their side. He was real quick to tell everyone he was done with alcohol "for now" after his 2nd offense and first public suspension.

Perhaps it is still true.

Perhaps it was privileged information that he was supposed to keep in confidence.

After all, he was the first to break the news that Blackmon had checked himself into rehab.

Could be that he has now upset the person in Blackmon's circle who used to be a good scoop. Or, could be the scoop wasn't so good after all. Either way, at least he's not throwing the scoop under the bus even if he's backed off the story.

I mean, really. The way of today is that if you do or say something wrong, just ignore it and it goes away over time. What difference does it make in the end? It eventually dies out on its own as we find our next fix.

Sad, but true

If the guy was clean, if he was preparing to come back after his suspension was over, if he was eager to play ball again, why would he want to keep his application for reinstatement secret? It makes no sense. If he had spent an entire year preparing to play again why would his application be held in confidence?

I believe any other player who was suspended, then spent his time away preparing for his comeback would be anxious to grab a microphone.

If you listened to the audio Dempsey went directly to Long and asked him if this info was to be on record or off record. Long ok'd it.

Yeah, all this article says is that maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but either way Alfie needed to get his page clicks for the day.
