I don't think Bart Starr's in the top 10.  I'd replace him with Favre but the rest of that list looks pretty solid to me.

Brady is top 5. He has the wins and the rings.

   American journalism current fixation with building them up and tearing them down is asinine.. If he deflated/Inflated or slept with a ball to his liking, it's nothing Namath, Stabler,Unitas, or anyone else hasn't done including Saint Staubach. Think Koufax never scuffed a ball? Tatum never tried to hurt anyone intentionally to gain an edge? These are the silly PC days for sure.

Otto Graham and Sammy Baugh would be somewhere in my top 10 QBs of all-time list.    Graham was in his league's championship game all 10 of his professional seasons.   Baugh is arguably the best ALL around player in history of the NFL.

 I would venture to say most of us never saw either of these guys throw a pass or run for a TD in a live NFL game. I sure wasn't.

 

Heck, most of us weren't even alive at anytime during their playing careers. Otto Graham (1946-1955) and Sammy Baugh (1937-1952), although there might a poster or two in here who was.

 

Anybody out there see either of these guys play?

  I agree with you that the vast majority of people reading this thread never saw Otto Graham or Sammy Baugh play a live game.   Yet,   much like when discussing who were the best Presidents in the entire history of the United States,  there's enough information available that one can form an opinion even if they weren't around at the time something took place.    There were other great QBs in the earlier days of the NFL.   Including Sid Luckman and Bobby Layne.    But the accomplishments and skill levels of Graham and Baugh were extraordinary.     Thankfully,  there are highlight reels of these players for people like us and future generations to see.

After looking back on my list, I think 8 is where I'd keep him... I think I could be swayed to put him above Aikman and Manning...


But let's face it, he's a small handed QB, if he was playing all these years with balls that are under inflated, it could very well have skewed his success...

Otto Graham is close to making my list, but his career was cut too short. I honestly don't know enough about Baugh.

Really,, it's hard to say what the great QBs from 20 years ago or more were doing. Meaning, they very well could've been manipulating footballs to their liking as well. I'm not sure things like that were scrutinized as much compared to this era.


In the "every team cheats" thread, I read quotes from Jeff Blake (starting QB throughout the 90's). He said that he had air let out of footballs just before every game, every season he played. He also stated that it was a common practice back then for alot of people,, and that he didn't think it was "that big of a deal."


Of any list of Top Ten All-Time QBs,, I'd be really very surprised to find out that only one (Tom Brady) manipulated footballs outside of the PSI Specifications set forth by the league. QBs from the 90's and earlier were probably doing alot of that kind of stuff.

Possibly true. I can't disprove what you are implying. But shouldn't there be some ding from being caught, if I were to agree with your premise? Which I don't think I 100 percent agree with...


Also, to me, among all the top 10 qbs I've listed, Brady appears to be the most"system" qb of the rest....
