The Everett Golson Sweepstakes

Quote:I don't see how having a pro-style offense makes him the best QB coach in the nation.  it just means he has a pretty basic system, and it was very bland under Ponder/Manuel to the point where Jimbo was on the hot seat.

Having a pro-style offense does not make him the best QB coach in the nation. But when you send your last three QBs to the 1st round of the NFL, then clearly the NFL is taking notice of whatever Fisher is doing at FSU. Best QB coach or not (besides, he said arguably), that is something. That's the point. Golson needs a golden wrapper to cover himself up and make himself look good for the NFL.

Based on Ponder, Manuel, and Winston's track record so far, I don't think anyone can blame him for thinking Jimbo and FSU gives him that best shot (that along with the lack of viable junior/senior to challenge him)

I mean, seriously, when's the last time a coach had his last three starting QBs get drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft?

Clearly you haven't paid attention to the amount of talent the ACC has sent to the NFL recently, or followed recruiting very much

if he was so good at coaching QBs, then they would have played better in college.  Their college careers (Ponder and EJ) were nothing special, which means teams were impressed by them for other reasons.  They liked EJ because he threw well in the cold... Nothing to do with Jimbo

That is irrelevant considering Clemson and FSU have been the only really good teams in the conference the past few years, and thusly have been producing the most NFL talent.  Any other players coming out of the ACC were good players on bad college teams, nothing more.

I will give GT credit for last year, but that has been the outlier.  They haven't been consistently too strong.

Not really...Louisville & GaTech immediately come to mind.  Miami falls into the bucket you reference.  The SEC and all conferences have those top heavy teams, average teams, and then bad teams, it's really not drastically different.

But it's really not worth talking with you about it anymore...it's all anti-FSU, anti-Jimbo, anti-ACC anti-anythingthatmakesFSUlookgood.

Not really going to matter who you throw behind Florida's o-line next year.

He's also turnover prone so it's not a good combination, IMO.

Oh and I suppose you are fair and balanced when it comes to discussing anything UF. Give me a break

That's really all I was saying, but badger being the clown he is, takes it way out of context to make it sound like Jimbo is the greatest to ever exist.

And you're real fair when discussing FSU?

Badger. Super Gator homerism won't let him admit anything positive about the ACC or FSU. Amusing that some people try.
Huh

He does make a good point here.  Ponder I thought had more pro potential, but when EJ went as early as he did I was shocked.  He was ok in college, but I think everyone had a good idea that he would bust in the NFL.

Jimbo can only do so much, then it falls on the player. Ponder was pretty good, but battled injuries. EJ had the potential, but he just didn't have it upstairs.

the rest of the ACC won the golston sweepstakes.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

This biggest thing you are about to see with this is a difference in coaching. Let's see what Jimbo can do with him that Kelley could not.

Though we all already know Jimbo is a better coach this will just confirm lol  Yes I'm a biased Nole fan so what.

This situation could play out many different ways; he may come in and suck, Jimbo may not want to play him, etc.  Having the option is always better than not having the option, so I guess I Just don't see the problem everyone is discussing, or why it's a "this team won" vs "this team didn't win."

FSU won because they have another option other teams don't.

I think it has more to do not wanting to start a true frosh, or Maguire who is terrible.

Yeah. If Maguire had a good spring, I don't know that they even pursue Golson.

Okay, but what does that matter?  Maybe they think Maguire or the Freshman are no good, so at least now we have the option to not start them if we don't want to.  I just don't get what all of the hoopla is about.  We have an additional option at QB, either he's better than our other options and will play, or he's not.

She's 1/2 so far. Couldn't reel Braxton Miller in, but she got Golson.

She's our secret weapon.
