At what point do people say enough is enough?

Quote:Like most places, it's centralized in certain areas of town. I live in the area west of the intracoastal and there is very little crime. I went to Forrest and Randolph on the north side. We used to live near Collins off blanding. My parents. Now live behind the WALMART in 103rd near blanding by a few blocks. I think the school near them is Jeb Stuart? It always seemed safe to me. Maybe it is the area just odd I never hear anything even with her in the PD's office downtown. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I grew up on the westside in that same area, and went to Forrest too, and you couldn't pay me to live over there now either. The random shootings and murders you hear about on the news in and around the 103rd street area are scary and depressing. There are still pocket areas that are still not so bad, but those are getting smaller and smaller every day...
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???
Quote:I've been asked to get involved with a local coalition in my area of town that is a combined effort between local churches, community leaders, and JSO to address crime and redevelopment. One of the biggest focal points is on how to deal with the rising crime in the area, and the prevention of allowing gang related crimes to expand into our neighborhoods. It is going to require a very proactive approach to deal with that and the other issues our community and this city are facing. My hat's off to you, sir. I've been in Jacksonville on an extended job hunt/scouting trip for the last couple of weeks, and after seeing the news and talking to old friends who never left, I've shifted to focusing more on Flagler County, Tampa and Tallahassee as my target areas. Amazingly enough, the house in Riverside that I spent my childhood fearing for my life in on a nightly basis now feels very calm and safe to me, but a few blocks west or a mile north and it's as terrifying as it ever was. A quick drive along 103rd and Roosevelt looks far, far worse than it did twelve years ago. Quote:My hat's off to you, sir. Jeb Stuart is on the other side of Blanding, by Westconnett. It sounds like they live near Jeff Davis. I went there from 91 to 94 and the neighborhood was not very good then. But it has really, really gone downhill. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:What kind of work do you do? Flagler county is commuting county you won't find much work there. I don't mind working in Jacksonville, just don't necessarily want to live here. My work can be done pretty much anywhere there's a sizeable town (medical) Quote:Like most places, it's centralized in certain areas of town. I live in the area west of the intracoastal and there is very little crime. That's the part of town that I grew up in (Argyle/Indian Trails area) and it shocks me every time I go home just how bad those areas are now.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I grew up in Chimney Lakes. Which when we moved there (early 90's) was considered the "nice part" of Argyle. It's aged like most neighborhoods, poorly. My parents still live there but for the most part, the houses cycle through occupants pretty quickly. Some military families but a lot of foreclosures and rentals. Not ideal living. Quote:I know Indian Trails very well. I grew up in Chimney Lakes I know that place well. Used to spend my summers riding the bike to the gazebo there and playing football in that big field. Never really thought the place would go down the way that it has.

Same here. During the summer we used to walk, or ride our bikes down Westport to the Gate station on Collins. My mom would leave me a dollar to get an ICEE. This was when they had the plastic cups of different MLB teams. The good ol' days. Quote:Same here. During the summer we used to walk, or ride our bikes down Westport to the Gate station on Collins. My Dad would send us there to get milk. Ever try riding a bike while holding a cold gallon of milk? That'll teach you some balance!
