I'd like to sign Reggie Wayne

#1

I'd think he'd be a great fit here. I do believe we need a veteran WR, and I think someone like Wayne, who caught for Manning and Luck, probably has a few things he can teach the youngsters.

I know Wayne is on the downside of his career, but he can still contribute. I just wonder if he wants to sign here, or go to a team where he has a shot of winning a SB immediately.

What does everyone think?

We were looking to sign a veteran WR --that guy from Green Bay who signed with the Dolphins. I think it's still a need.

Don't want to see playing time taken away from Lee, Robinson, Hurns, and Greene

Hmm...36 year old WR coming off multiple surgeries and has slowed down quite a bit and has garnered no interest in free agency.  Couple that with the fact we have a ton of depth at this position with a lot of young talent.

No thanks....

So why would we sign a 36/37 year old wideout who is definitely showing signs of eroding skills?

HeadSlap

When they have no time,  they think about it!

When they go down hard, they think about it!

Just watch Peyton, Andrew, Caep even Mr. Bundchen.

So we should sign a veteran wide receiver for the sake of signing a veteran wide receiver. Like that other team that signed that other guy.

Last year he had almost 800 yards receiving on 64 receptions, for a 12 yard average. I agree he's not what he once was, and I wouldn't want him to take significant playing time from our young guys....but I think having him on the roster, in clutch situations, might be a good thing.  In case one of our guys goes down, he could play an expanded role.

I think we should suit up Jerry Sullivan.
Have you seen my baseball?

No.

Next question.

Can we at least wait until the OTA's are over before we rev up the "let's sign a over-the-hill veteran WR" band wagon?

Totally agree..   Elite talent like that pays for itself in passing on their experience to the younger players.

Look at Steve Smith (why didn't we get him?)  Julius Peppers...  and on and on and on and on.

We've got the cap space, and room on the roster.  What we don't have is the EXPERIENCE in the front office (and ownership) to recognize how valuable gems like Wayne are beyond their playing skills.  He's worth paying for a mere 16 plays a year, and what he can bring to our young squad.

Helluva lot better than Hugh Douglas et al..

Jax has been known for players coming here and resting on their laurels.  At the very least we should grab the elites when they are available, and suck the clutch from their skulls.

36/37 years..   there was a guy on NFL network (some top 10 list) that ran like a 4.4 forty at 50 years old..  the regulars on this board toss players way too early.. (D. Smith among them)

We NEED the kind of leadership that a guy like the inimitable Reggie Wayne can bring.  If he is available, we should grab him fast !!

Thank the football gods for Julius Thomas.  We have a gem there for sure.

Wayne is coming off major injury, is up in age, and played with Luck last season...

Also had TY across from him.

We can sign him if we have a couple WRs go down with injury.

IF Doss gets hurt and Sanders flops again then maybe just because we would need a guy,but what about a guy like steve smith(the ex NYG) or if we are talking about wayne then what about Welker? Personally i would rather give a guy like Benn/Walters a shot

I think you recognized a name.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I'd like Reggie Wayne to sign a football for memorabilia.

I would not like him to sign a contract with the Jags.

I would hire Brett Favre over Henne...

Look at Charles Woodson.   Guess you would like his graph too?

The biggest issue with +35 year old former star players is that you have to take two things into account:

1) Does he have any left in the tank?

and if he does

2) Is he looking to try to play at a high level or is he here to collect a check?

It pains me to say that we've had a few that have come here to simply collect a check. We're better off with Allen Robinson who has shown signs of being a very good player.

THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.

RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.
