Quote:Those two catches were pretty sweetYes they were. It was also good to see Lewis with a couple really nice catches as well. I believe Benn had a diving grab too. Colvin is much more than a nickel. He's our best corner. Nickels have a specialty. You can find them. Stud corners are much harder to find. We're not going to squander our best corner by holding him back at nickel full time.

Quote:Simple question: Guys get drafted to play corner and end up as nickel backs. It happens. Colvin was a fourth rounder BTW. I get your point, but we obviously just disagree on the importance of the nickel back. He wasn't "squandered" last year at nickel. He made an impact from the position. Your opinion that he's "our best corner" may turn out to be true, and of course he should play outside if that's the case. I've stated that repeatedly. I was trying to make two points. - sometimes your third best corner isn't your best option at nickel & - the nickel-back position isn't some far-flung step child of the secondary when he's on the field for 70% of the defensive snaps and facing the opponents best receiver several times during the game I just hope someone like a J. Harris, or T. Campbell turn out to be a viable option at nickel and make this debate moot. In the meantime - I like the idea of moving Colvin inside at times until a solid option emerges as a full-time nickel.
How is Colvin our best cb? He started how many games? He did what exactly that was noteworthy? A td on a fumble that Gratz caused?
Right now Gratz >>>> Colvin easily. Quote:How is Colvin our best cb? He started how many games? He did what exactly that was noteworthy? A td on a fumble that Gratz caused? Maybe, maybe not, but gratz has been getting high praise from the coaching staff. My ideal corners would be colvin and mcray on the outside with gratz playing nickel. Or swap colvin with gratz depending on how they want to use them.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

A td on a fumble that Gratz caused? Yeah....no. McCray >>>>>> Colvin >>>> Gratz Be mindful Gratz was benched for Colvin last year.

Quote:Yeah....no.Where does House fit into the equation? We did pay him starter money.
I'd bet on House (10 million guaranteed) and Colvin starting outside with Colvin bouncing to nickel fairly often - being replaced outside by McCray when he does.

I'm willing to bet McCray will be the full time starter with House and Colvin rotating on the outside and Colvin moving to nickel in sub packages.

Quote: Guys get drafted to play corner and end up as nickel backs. It happens. Colvin was a fourth rounder BTW. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Colvin projected to be drafted much higher, but fell to the 4th round because of injury? ![]() Quote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Colvin projected to be drafted much higher, but fell to the 4th round because of injury? You are correct. Regardless - the fact that they were able to get him that late weakens the "you don't put a highly drafted CB at nickel" argument.
I don't necessarily agree with your stance on the subject of where Colvin should be used most effectively, but I won't fault you for having that opinion.

Quote:I don't necessarily agree with your stance on the subject of where Colvin should be used most effectively, but I won't fault you for having that opinion. My stance is still rather "open" on the matter actually. I think camp and preseason film review will make these decisions apparent for the coaches -- and we really don't know right now how it will pan out. I'm simply "open" to the concept of moving Colvin inside on a percentage of snaps. If he turns out to be hands-down the best corner on the team - then that move would be highly questionable - but that isn't a foregone conclusion for me just yet. Very possible - but as of now, unproven.
Gus mentioned Ronde Barber as a player who started on the outside, then moved inside on Nickle packages.
Didn't Charles Woodson make a career out of doing this as well? Quote:Or an Ormond Beach opinion about anything remotely Jaguar related. Agree. Marrone on Joeckel:
Quote:“I see great progress, I really do,” Marrone said, via ESPN.com. “Not just out of him but out of everyone. He’s put on some extra weight which has been good weight, some lean muscle mass. Obviously it’s a challenge for all of us learning a new system, but I see him progressing and getting better each day. … I’m excited with the direction that he’s going. I think he feels the same way. There’s a confidence that you see out there. There’s still a level of inconsistency, but we understand that right now. Again, it’s progressing in the right direction.” http://m.nbcsports.com/content/doug-marrone-sees-%E2%80%9Cgreat-progress%E2%80%9D-luke-joeckel

Random but FA WR James Jones thinks he would be a good fit with the Jags:
Quote:James Jones mentions 4 teams that'd interest Something tells me that interest isn't mutual though.

Quote:Marrone on Joeckel:I think the two best things that can happen for this team is for Joeckel and Bortles to make strides this year. If they both play at a very high level, this team has a chance. My two cents, those are the most important positions for improvement right now, by a long shot. |
