I also have a newer lg smart TV. Got tired of the "smart" features really quick, just too slow and buggy. Decided to add on an amazon fire TV stick and havnt looked back since.

For any TV buyers, do not pay the extra for smart features. Most are poorly coded and very buggy. There are a ton of third party hardware to turn your basic TV into a smart TV. My two favorites currently are the amzon TV stick and chromecast

Quote:Curved displays are a gimmick...but they look cool and it was on sale and cheaper than the regular flat screen.

And Netflix has some stuff in 4k.

Quote:So I'm going to spoiling myself in the next couple of days. I'm purchasing a new 60" flat screen but looking for opinions. I have my eye on two different brands (RCA and Panasonic) but one is LED and the other is LCD.. Which is better? I've done some internet searching and found pro's and con's for both but was looking for board member opinions as well.

Thoughts?

Quote:Agreed.  4K is the future.  Curved displays are a gimmick.

curved displays arent a gimmick. the curve helps eliminate glare.

there is 4k content available from directv, netflix, and devices like nvidia shield tv put out content in 4k, as well as ps4 and xbox one having the capability so in the future, games could be putting off 4k content as well.

so with that being said, i wouldnt get anything that isnt 4k capable and if you can find a good deal and have the money, nothing is better right now than a 4k curved tv and samsung makes the best ones.

in terms of best bang for your buck, i really love the brand TCL. check them out.

edit: it appears i was a little late to the party but still sound advice! haha

I don't know.  I think you bought into the gimmick.  I've got a flat screen that has zero glare.  The curve isn't necessary.  It's just something different that people are convinced has some benefit.

At the end of the day, 4K is the way to go.  Curved or flat, it's going to provide the absolute best picture available.

You'll love the LG brand.  I've got 2 of them in the house and they are terrific TVs.  60" is the perfect size if you've got a decent roomo.  The only issues I have had with my TVs was the sound and the Smart TV.  Like someone else said above, the Smart TV features are slow.  I ended up buying a good sound system for the TV with a decent sub.  It's like being at the movies with the surround sound.  I've got Fire Sticks on my TVs and they work flawlessly.  Much better at picking up the network signal and less buffering.

I had some glare once on my TV. I closed the curtain, problem solved.

disagree with the first thing you said, agree with the second.

just for full disclosure, i do work for a cable company and handle television sales and set ups.

dont get me wrong, there are beautiful tvs that arent curved, just the curved ones are (generally) a cut above.

Curved tvs are great for rooms with view distance constraints. It's a great option to get the largest screen size possible to view comfartably for short viewing distances.

However they are a bit gimmicky if viewing distance is normal or far.

Definitely love it. But like you said, the only downfall is the sound. Already was doing research on those soundbars but decided that im going surround sound instead.

Is that one of the LG smart tvs that runs webOS? The old palm operating system? If so...I'm a little jealous.
