Should the confederate flag continued to be honored?

Quote:Here is a sad but true example of that. These are high school graduates of our government indoctrination centers. Simple questions that we should be teaching our children, yet they don't really grasp. Most of them got the speaker of the house, and as for the date of independence most of them were put on the spot to answer a question about a date, and froze. Doesn't that happen to pretty much everyone? We see all sorts of gaffes from politicians of all kinds. And those politicians pretty much spend their lives being ready for being on camera. I'm sure it had also been a long time since they studied the American Revolution given that they were graduating. Something that likely hadn't been on their mind for a while.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Something that likely hadn't been on their mind for a while. Please, you're really going to chalk it up to freezing in the moment? Most of these idiots know practically nothing about American history because it's barely taught in public schools. I know this because I am the father of a high school aged child, and even her contemporaries who attend public schools, and their parents will readily admit they're not given much history that isn't of the politically correct variety in their indoctrination centers. This wasn't stage fright. They're simply not being taught. You try to chalk it up to it being a long time since they studied the American Revolution. There are some pretty basic dates that every American should know instinctively. Freshly graduated high schoolers should be able to rattle that off immediately. The funny thing is, this is in Northern Virginia where these kids live. That's one of the most wealthy, and one of the most liberal areas of the country. So, it's not a shock that these kids have no clue. They're immersed in it. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:That fact is relevant how? You claim you dislike "government indoctrination centers" but lament that graduates don't know this useless bit of government indoctrination. Who cares what the year was. How is knowing that useless piece of information a litmus test on any level whatsoever?American history, particularly the very beginnings of this country, are useless in your eyes? That's probably why this country is going down the tubes. Those who don't know the history are bound to repeat it. I can't believe any functionally literate human being would say what you did, but it explains a lot, that's for sure. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
It must be weird going through life thinking the absolute worst about most of your fellow citizens...

Here is another example from some college "educated" people. Here is another example of how much people know (or don't) about our past presidents. Here is another one done by a college student on her campus. What is sad is that they all knew what show snookie is on and who Brad Pitt is/was married to, but they don't know basic U.S. History or even who the current Vice President is. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Quote:American history, particularly the very beginnings of this country, are useless in your eyes? Being able to rattle off dates is stupid and pointless. I'd rather hear a question about why we declared independence.
Quote:Being able to rattle off dates is stupid and pointless. I'd rather hear a question about why we declared independence. The disrespect of actual facts and the knowledge thereof is such an inherent part of every leftist I know. It's funny how that works, once facts don't matter then neither do words or outcomes, only intent. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Knowing the history of your country is neither pointless, nor is it stupid. To suggest otherwise is pointless and stupid. Never argue with idiots. On the right or the left?
Quote:Disrespect of actual facts? Where are all those folks who don't believe in evolution? On the right or the left? The only person I personally knew who didn't 'believe' (science is not about belief) in evolution was a Muslim physicist. Not sure which way he leaned politically. But if you want to tie politics with bad science, most of the anti-GMO crowd is from the left, as are the anti-vaccine crowd and the moon landing was faked group. Every wacky theory has a political leaning. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" Quote:The Confederate flag represents treason and oppression. It has a place in a historical context, but not as part of state flags or flying over or near government buildings. What would people think if German government in different areas flew Nazi flags? This is essentially what those who are defending the confederate flag are doing. Why would anyone defend that flag knowing what is represents? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:What would people think if German government in different areas flew Nazi flags? This is essentially what those who are defending the confederate flag are doing. Why would anyone defend that flag knowing what is represents? So what exactly does it "represent"? Slavery? History? Heritage? The answer, depending on who you are talking to could be any of those. In my opinion, comparing the Confederate Battle Flag with the Nazi Flag is not the same thing. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Quote:So what exactly does it "represent"? Slavery? History? Heritage? The answer, depending on who you are talking to could be any of those. It depends on the person. To a descendent of a slave or a European Jew, the respective flag represents a holocaust.
If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.
- Bob Marley ![]() Quote:In my opinion, comparing the Confederate Battle Flag with the Nazi Flag is not the same thing. Actually, it's not that bad a comparison. Both flags were flown by a group of people who, for reasons solely of hate, sought to fully subjugate another group of people by violent means.
Quote:Actually, it's not that bad a comparison. Both flags were flown by a group of people who, for reasons solely of hate, sought to fully subjugate another group of people by violent means. You have a funny definition of hate. Do we hate the plow horse who works our fields or the milk cow who feeds our kids? Because that is the same way those people felt about their slaves. It simply isn't realistic to ascribe our modern understanding of humanity and proper societal etiquette to people from a bygone era. It was economics, not hate, the kept chattel slavery alive. Nazis? They were truly hateful by their scapegoating of non-Aryans for all their cultural problems. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

It was economics, not hate, the kept chattel slavery alive. And equating a human being with a horse or a cow is not hateful how? Did white people only start hating black people after the Civil War? I mean, are you going to tell me that if the slaves had just shut up and taken it, the KKK and Jim Crow Laws never would have happened, and the Civil Rights Movement wouldn't have been necessary because we'd all be friends with our horses and cows?

No, it's not hateful in that context. Hate is what the Nazis did to non-Aryans. slavery was just an economic condition. Blacks weren't the only race to suffer slavery in the history of humanity. Even Indentured Servitude wasn't hateful, just a means to an economic end. Hate is an overused term that's lost its meaning in modern discourse, the same as using liberal to describe Leftists. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
