Drifter's big gun topic
|
Quote:Been my experiance that the AK-47 is a far Superior weapon them the M-16 (AR-15). Sure the fire rate is slower but it doesn't JAM! As an owner of both I can say they have their perks and faults. The AR platform is a much more versatile weapon, depending on the make it's usually a lighter rifle then the standard AK-47. The AK-47 however is a much more durable weapon, in a life or death situation I'd rather have my AK then my AR but at the range having fun I'll take my AR most of the time. Also remember the AR models are lighter versions of the real M-16, the fully automatic piston loaded M-16 is very different from the Semi-Auto Gas chambered AR-15. As were the only difference in my AK and the one used in combat overseas is a little retaining clip that easily removable making it "semi-auto". The true military grade M-16 is just as durable as the AK but at about 3 times the price. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:I do too, but purely as a marvel of engineering. Not at all, anyone that has grown up in the "gun culture" understands what they are for. It's a big reason why we own them. Just like when I was growing up I teach my kids about guns from an early age, you have to with kids in the house. I let them hold the weapon (unloaded and cleared of course) let them feel the weight so they know the difference between a real gun and a toy gun. I explain to them one on one what they are used for, how they are tools and like any tool you use it wrong someone can get hurt or even die. It's the kids not raised by their parents around guns but find them on the streets and play GTA all day that get hurt or use them for crime. I saw it said once, "Kids that Hunt, Trap and Fish don't Bang, Steal and Rape" Quote:Tread lightly. I know ... Why do a few people always have to screw up a really good thread? 2nd, why is DF always in the middle of the ruins? :woot: A little less "in your face", and a lot more understanding can go a long way. It is like the NFL ... You can't hit them in the Head, you shouldn't hit them in the Knees ... There is a lot of middle that we can work with. ![]() ![]()
Quote:Not at all, anyone that has grown up in the "gun culture" understands what they are for. It's a big reason why we own them.Every credible scientific study ever conducted has reached the conclusion that video games do not increase a person's likelihood of committing a crime. Every once in a while there will be a news story about some kid using a gun sometime after playing GTA and they'll always focus on the video game and never on the pressing issue of why a 11 year old had access to a loaded firearm. As for gun culture in the US; for every person that uses there gun wisely there are two that don't. Same with cars or computers or any other household item except this time the item is designed to kill.

I will amend what I said earlier. While stand your ground is part of the pretrial process, apparently seeking it calls for a special hearing, and by doing so and succeeding, precludes any trial.
In short. If someone seeks stand your ground and wins, there is no trial. I said it wrong, but I was still right. Zimmerman was not stand your ground. 3 words of jury instruction don't change law and legal procedure.
What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
Quote:You are sooo wrong. If it can't kill, I ain't buying it for protection. Americans know this, even the bad guy Americans know this... That is why bad guys don't hold up a bank with a hotdog, and the good guy doesn't throw a bun, and pack of mustard at then to stop them. Sammy. I'm not saying the kid is violent because of video games specifically. I'm referring to the gang culture that runs the inner cities, it's everywhere from the music to the movies to the games and if you don't believe all of that influences them I don't know what to say. These same kids over loaded with the gang culture have no clue how to handle a fire arm or respect what its used for. They get mad or want something they can't afford and that's probably a good 75% of your gun crime right there. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The whole collection of music. movies etc. might have an influence I admit, but I think that it's more likely the fact they live in a craphole and they see no other way of making money other than turning to a life of crime from an early age. And once you're in that circuit it becomes the only thing you know how to do and in the end there are essentially only two ways out; get killed or thrown in prison. Quote:Wrong. You win your argument with DF on a technical point. No, it was not a Stand Your Ground case. However, Zimmerman was charged with committing a homicide. To not be guilty, the homicide must either be excusable or justifable. One way it could have been justifiable would have been if it was self defense. In explaining what entailed self defense, the judge included a description of what "stand your ground" means. The just was charged with determining if Zimmerman was guilty or not guilty of murder. To do that, once they established that he had shot Trayvon Martin, they had to determine if they shooting was justified. To do that, they must determine if he acted in self defense. "Stand your ground" is a phrase used to refer to part of the Florida law definition of self defense. So, yes, you are correct in that it was not a Stand Your Ground case, but you are also wrong that it was not included in the jury instructions. There is an entire paragraph, not three words, explaining what it means and how it applied to their deliberations.

I prefer Europe in practically every way (except gas prices) and it's not just the cheap health care, higher public safety or (mostly) competent public transport. I'm not sure how to discuss this. Inaccurate stamped out sheet metal? We aren't discussing the same weapons from way back when the AK was the more reliable choice, and that has nothing to do with shooting range fun. You can take waayyyy less accurate all day long, as long as you are on the other team. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! It was a self defense case, not stand your ground. The people trying to blur these lines are completely uninformed and should know what they are talking about prior to trying to change laws. There is a LOT MORE that I would love to say about this, but it goes outside the lines of what I'm allowed to say.

Otherwise ... bug-off. ![]() Do I got that right? Quote:Say what???? Right, and I said it wasn't a Stand Your Ground case. But the description of what entails "stand your ground" is part of how Florida defines self defense, and that was included in the instructions.

Quote:Oh yeah, that one ... I forgot.Well, for starters it should be "Did I get that right?". But no, other than some comparatively miniscule reserves we have no oil. We do have a substantial reserve of natural gas, which is nice.
