FSU QB and Jacksonville native De'Andre Johnson suspended, allegedly over punching woman
|
Other people are starting to speak up about this.
"Mixon pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault last summer after allegedly punching a woman in the face. She was knocked unconscious by the punch and suffered a broken jaw, broken cheek bone, fractured sinus an fractured orbit near her left eye. There is reportedly video evidence of that incident, too, which Oklahoma saw before deciding to suspend Mixon for the entire 2014 season, reinstating him for spring practice in 2015. The video was sealed in court and therefore will not be released publicly (unless TMZ does what it does, of course). Mixon will play for the Sooners this fall. Now add this: In March, a video surfaced of members of the SAE fraternity at Oklahoma chanting a racial slur on a bus, which ignited national outrage and led to the involved students being expelled from the university and the Norman chapter of the fraternity being shut down. Mixon gets a second chance after obliterating a woman's face, but the racist chanters don't. This is where Casillas has a problem." http://www.foxsports.com/college-footbal...ard-070815 We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
It just blows me away to think about the magnitude that action had on De'Andre's life. The dude was probably the most popular dude at First Coast, rooted for FSU his entire life, and is now sitting at home, going to abuse prevention classes, talking to lawyers, and removing any and all FSU items from his home.
5 seconds and 1 bad judgement response is all it takes. I only hope this makes him a better person and he goes on to have success elsewhere a la Cam Newton. Who knows, he may have sat the bench his entire career at FSU anyway given the elite QB competition they have now and also coming into their 2016 recruiting class.
Quote:Other people are starting to speak up about this. I agree with what he says involving the video. It seems that you can do something heinous and as long as there is no video the punishment is much less. Ray Rice had a small suspension until the video came out and it exploded. The image is always worse than the story, but Ray Rice didn't lie about what happened, Ozzie Newsome even said he told the truth.
Quote:Would I have hit her? probably not. But then of course that's because if I was single and in college again i'd be thinking of other forms of corrective behavior for a feisty attractive blond but that's another story. Ummm... Ok?
I love it when anyone defends the man in this situation by saying "well, women wanted equal rights".
Johnson had a chance to be a man, but he chose to react like a child.

I hope he gets a second chance somewhere. He messed up, I think he knows this. Live and learn, and don't do it again.

Might not get another chance in 1-A, but I bet you there are already FCS coaches out there figuring out how to word the press release saying that he's been added on scholarship.

He needs to come out and make a statement (which I know he cant because of the charges against him) and just say I know I did something wrong, apologize apologize apologize and try to move on. I think if people see actual remorse sooner than later, his chances of getting into a better school significantly increases. He's radioactive at this point. His best bet might be to go to a junior college, play a couple of years there at a high level while keeping his nose clean, then try and get an offer from a Division I-A school afterwards. I could see him ending up at a school like Jacksonville State or South Alabama.
Quote:I could see him ending up at a school like Jacksonville State or South Alabama. That's probably most likely. I could see the whole JUCO route though. He really doesn't have much time before the fall semester starts. Quote:I could see him ending up at a school like Jacksonville State or South Alabama.Yeah, FCS is a definitely possibility. I think he'd be better off going the juco route, though. Quote:Nah. He hit a woman and it was captured on film. He's radioactive at this point. Joe Mixon destroyed a girl's face and is still playing for a D1 school. He could probably get on at a smaller D1 school. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:One of the most gratifying things I have seen in a long time happened this past sunday. 5-2 with one of the greatest individual performances I have seen in any sporting event the us women's national team won the world cup and an entire generation of great women players got the gold that they had been chasing for the better part of two decades. arguably the best player on that team received the golden glove award for best goal tending performance through out the entire tournament and that was Hope Solo, one of my favorite athletes of any sport. You hit the nail on the head here. You won't get through to the "you NEVER hit a woman" crew, though. The people that don't believe women are capable of causing significant harm are as stubborn as they are ignorant. Would I ever hit a woman? Not unless my life or health was significantly threatened, but you're dang right I'm going to defend myself if that's the case.
His first instinct to stop her from hitting him was the right one but punching her back was stupid. He could have just walked away after she hit him and we probably wouldn't even be talking about this guy right now.

Not unless my life or health was significantly threatened, but you're dang right I'm going to defend myself if that's the case. And his life or health was in NO way threatened. That is the point. There was no reason for him to hit her, certainly not with the amount of force he used. I wonder if the people defending this guy are the same idiots who think rape victims who happened to be wearing short skirts or revealing clothes "asked for it"?
So women should be allowed going around punching men?? Its funny, I'm hearing more women defend Johnson then I am men. One of my friends (who is a woman) went as far as to say that this notion that a man can't hit a women in a circumstance like this is more of a downgrade to their gender then anything. It tells them that yes you have equality, but you're still a weaker species. Society is telling women that they have no control over their emotions, but we expect more from men.
I don't believe I would have responded in the same way Johnson did, but I'm not going to sit here and point a finger at anyone for practicing self defense. Who cares if she wouldn't have done as much damage as he would, no one wants to get punched in the face. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

A woman's punch just doesn't hurt. At all.

I'm pretty sure not one person here said it's ok for women to go around punching men.
