There's one thing to think the Confederate Flag brings up memories of a racist history and then there is JFC's line of thinking....taking things to the extreme to generate a response.

People forget that slavery was (and still is to some extent) a terrible blight on human history, not just the history of the American south.


Both north and south had African slavery. Canada had indigenous and African slavery. Mexico had indigenous and African slavery. The Carribean had African slavery. Africa enslaved over a million white Europeans during the same time period as well as other Africans. Portugal enslaved Japanese during the same time period. It was everywhere and had no racial or national bounds.

To me what always made America great was the dream of freedom.  The right to say or do as you please provided it doesnt harm another citizen and remove their rights to be free and pursuit of happines. 

The confederate flag is one of a treason, but isnt all US flags to that of the British.   On that same point how would Americans feel if a state govt waived a British flag out of respect to the dead red coats that fought bravely in America, the Heritage.  I feel that a company should be able to make and sell any flag they chose and any American should be able to purchase said flag and fly it above their property (Residence, Industry or Commerical) but when a goverment building honors the losing side by hoisting its flag I feel that is wrong. 

It was fought by the Yankees and the Rebels surrendered by General Lee whom himself told troops to fold the flag up and put it away.

 

The problem is how this issuse came to light had more to do with politics and taking a tragic event to capitalize on it politically.  That has to stop, people have to look at politicans like Mitt Romney and think we will not be your pawns for politcial gain.

 

That's my two cents on the matter...
