New Scoreboards/Council meeting updates

Quote:I, for one, am not claiming he has no "ties" to the city, but I'm open-minded enough to know they are both exaggerated and mean little relative to a decision to relocate the team. "Ties", is this sense is a completely ambiguous descriptive. Are they emotional? Financial? How strong are they? To describe the physical location of a, now defunct, auto parts business from 30 years ago as a "tie" is ridiculous. Has he bought the site and built a THIS IS WHERE IT ALL STARTED museum yet??? I didn't think so.

He's going to the bank, not down memory lane. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, I'm just don't blinded by all the hype.

2) "Ties" are

What hype? That he will stay if we support the team?

Quote:Is money spent on government buildings tax deductible?

It's called a lease-hold improvement. It's not tax deductible but it is an expense which is offsets profits thereby reducing his tax burden. But the real benefit is he gets to keep all the video advertising he sells on the new scoreboards.

Thanks Chief.

So there is a catch to these massive scoreboards. A one time 20 million dollar investment (out of Khan's pocket) and he makes that back within the first year or two.

That's probably a little optimistic. ^

But he certainly seems to be going about it shrewdly.

Lol!!  I've never seen such a mangling of accounting principles in my life.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, Chief.

Don't take it personally.

So if it is true that it only takes Khan 2 years to make his money back on the 20 million, it stands to reason the city will eventually make their money back on the advertising they sell at non-Jaguar events.   And that would mean this 43 million dollar investment by the city would pay for itself without burdening the taxpayers and actually could generate a profit for the city.

Not that I necessarily believe Khan can make his money back in 2 years, but if you do believe that, then you have to believe the scoreboards would also be profitable for the city as well.

On the subject of "ties"; how many ties did Wayne Weaver have to Jacksonville before he became the majority owner?

I think there were Nine West and Shoe Carnival stores in Jacksonville before Weaver bought the team, but I could be wrong. If there were, that would be the only connection.

If I'm not mistaken he had sold his shoe business by that time.

That question is the reason why folks are concerned with Khan...  Weaver in terms of his commitment to the city is obviously different, if you can't admit that, then you aren't being objective...

Which is fine...  You can maintain your arguement, but let's be honest... You're not being objective...

Whether he had strong bonds and relationships in Jax or not is irrelevant.

What matters is that we support our team.

Do not support the team and we suffer the consequences.

Support our team and we will enjoy our Jags for many, many years to come as they become further entrenched and our fan base will grow well beyond our borders with Mr. Khan's vision.
