If you think Manziel is a system QB just look at Case Keenum

#1

Both ran the same offense and posted great numbers, Keenum was labeled a system QB and went Undrafted, now he starts for the Texans.

Blaine Gabbert started for the jags. Lots of bad qbs start for teams and it's way to early to use Keenum as a data point for qbs in this type of system.

Did Blaine ever throw 350 and 3 TD's?

Was he handed the keys to a team like the Texans?  People were picking them to win a Superbowl before the season started.

Keenum and Manziel are so different stylistically as players it's not even funny. Horrible comparison.

Please elaborate.

Different? Yes! Horrible comparison? Not really! Their mentality seems very similar.

The poster wasnt comparison their playing style.  The poster was saying that just because a guy plays for a system doesnt mean they are by definition a system QB.

Texas Tech WRs put up huge numbers under Mike Leach.  You could have said they were system WRs.   But that didnt stop Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, or Michael Crabtree from becoming NFL players.

What I meant is that people were talking about how spread-option Quarterbacks cant learn a pro style offense talking down Manziel. Keenum proved them wrong, he played under the same coach and system as Manziel.

What has he proven or disproven so far? All Keenum's done so far is attempt 59 NFL passes and be better than TJ Yates in practice. Kubiak was going to bench Schaub for the water boy if it came to that.

I didn't realize. Because you are a habitual fan of awful QBs.

Manziel is not a system qb. He's a playmaker.

Okay, this is coming from a Keenum fan...  Do NOT draft Manziel.  I don't care what his profile says, he's not 6'1.. he's even smaller than Keenum and has a weaker arm.. and the knock on Keenum was he had a weak arm.   He also has a lot of off the field baggage and might have a drinking problem.. think Blackmon.  That's my biggest question with him.  Can you count on him to behave when he's not on the field or when football is not being played during the offseason.

How the heck was Keenum "handed the keys to a team"  please explain..

Keenum went undrafted and had to work his way up from being a camp invite, to earning a P.S. spot, to earning a roster spot, to beating out the backup, and then to beating out the starter even when he was deemed healthy.  He wasn't handed anything.. that's Gabbert.  He was the one who on draft night was handed the reigns of a NFL team despite even having to take a snap on a NFL field.. that's what happens when you're a first round pick.

And what is a team "like the Texans".  Foster has had less than five carries since he's started, Ben Tate is playing with broke ribs, our right side of our offensive line is in shambles, and Owen Daniels has been on short term I.R, for weeks.  The only mainstay has been Andre.  His first start came on the road against the chiefs right after they just broke the NFL stadium decibel record, in his second start his NFL coach had a stroke on the field..despite all of that he's put up incredible #s for someone making their first NFL starts.  This week he faces one of the best secondaries in the NFL on the road, so we'll see how he fairs there.

Comparing Gabbert to Keenum as players or comparing how they both became starters is a absolute horrible comparison.  Their playing styles aren't even the same as one is always looking for opportunities to throw deep and the other wants to check down.  They are two completely different players who came in under two completely different circumstances.

Oh P.S.

People need to get over the "spread system QB" crap

Take a look around and look at the evolution of the league.. Most of the league is adopting spread concepts now.. Brady has been a "spread QB" for years now.  If your talent pool and farm system is running it (college) it'll eventually make it's way to the big league's.  The problem has nothing to do with the systems being ran.. it has to do if the QB running the system can play at the next level or not and if he can adapt to other systems.  It also has to do with your coach.. a good coach will also adapt to build a system around his player's strengths, not just try to force a square peg into a round hole.

No he wasn't.. he left the job open. Schaub was just "hurt" during the Chiefs game and Kubiak made it a point to say he was still the starter.  It wasn't until he saw Case lighting up the Chiefs defense on the road that Schaub became a scratch when healthy the following week.  If Case fell on his face, he would've had no problem going back to Schaub. Kubiak is coaching for his job, trust me.. he wouldn't of just thrown the water boy out there.

I'm not so much worried about Manziel's ability to play as I am about the head on those shoulders.
