Will Jags pick up Seattle FA DT Tony McDaniel

#1

Salary Cap casulty because of all recent contract signings by Seattle. Rated in top 30% of all DT but long in tooth at age 30. Already knows defense but means someone would have to go and not sure Jags would take someone that old. Only possible reason is Seattle connection.

Does he play 0 or 3 tech? Either way could use the insurance with Miller and Marks recovering from surgery.

Isn't that what Hood, Alualu, Bennett and Abry Jones are for?

Seahawks released DT Tony McDaniel.

He was owed $3 million in salary and bonuses. It was inevitable the Seahawks would have to cut someone to clear cap room after signing Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner to big contract extensions. It's a big loss for Seattle's front seven as McDaniel received PFF's 15th highest defensive tackle grade last season. The 10-year veteran shouldn't have any trouble landing a new team. An unknown NFL rule:  Once someone plays for a team they can never, ever, ever, ever sign with that team again.

Can we not sign an upgrade?

I wouldn't have a problem if they signed him.  He is a good player.

If he can provide an upgrade over Alualu or Hood, then go for it.  I am not sure McDaniels 2 years older is a better long term answer over these guys.

Good player but so is  Junior Galette, I dont want Tony McDaniel for exactly the same reason i didnt want JG either. Bad off the field presence and doubtful a good influence for the younger players.

I'd rather see our young defensive tackles get the experience, like Bennett and Jones

Don't see it. Likely will be picked up by Atlanta, though.

Talk is he should be signed quickly. Maybe Del Rio will think he can help Oakland out on Defense.

McDaniel has a lot of experience starting on a team that went to 2 straight superbowls. I think that's more valuable than overdrafted players like hood or Alualu or those with limited experience.

We got the money, he wants to come in bring him in on a 3m base deal worth up to 5 on incentives. Never can have enough big guys who can play. Come late fall they're dropping like flies.

Do we want a woman beater on the team really? Why didn't we target galette and hardy at the same time?

We traded him to Miami for what, a 7th rounder? Can't remember but good grief did we have a bad front office back then, they couldn't spell the word talent.
