Luke Joeckel worries me, is he a bust?

So today was not a good practice for the offense overall. All of the QBs had a tough outing. I'd like to say it was just better secondary play, but really, coverage looked no different than past practices. With that said, the defense is more lively, faster, and providing smaller windows to pass into. With multiple decent practices under the belt, I don't see todays mess as a "sky is falling" moment. Good news is the QBs performed when it really mattered in the red zone.
On a secondary note, it has been obvious the Jags will be run heavy and an emphasis on YAC with short passes. Think more possession minded; slowly wear you down. There seems to be a ton of movement at the LOS to create mismatches. I've seen a few deep balls thrown tot the outside when this happens. The offensive line looks agressive in run blocking and slowly improving in pass pro. The right side seems more stought and consistent than the left, but i will say Beadles has been impressive. Joeckel looks to be improving, but I've noticed some technique issues that he needs to get over to be dominant. Still, I wouldn't give up on him. He is noticeably stronger and if he locks his hands on his guy one on one, he typically wins every match. Inside to outside or outside to inside pass offs he struggles a bit. The secondary intrigues me... i want to see how it shakes out in the first preseason game. I'm seeing formations and alignments i haven't seen since Gus got here. Not your typical base defense by any means. i wish i could give more detail, but not quite sure about what i saw. I can say it was CB heavy. The lone injury i saw today was Thomas. Seemed to tweak his back on a sled. He continued on for a few reps and sidelined for stretching. Didn't look serious. ![]() Quote:@mike_e_kaye: What a throw by Bortles, what a catch from Allen Hurns. #redzone #teamsideline https://t.co/FapfkS6cWS Recall in 2014 the jags defense was one of the best in the red zones (biased since they allowed so many long tds) Quote:The secondary intrigues me... i want to see how it shakes out in the first preseason game. Quote:Recall in 2014 the jags defense was one of the best in the red zones (biased since they allowed so many long tds) Which is interesting. Could our red zone offense really be THAT good? I mean with JT, ARob, Marcedes being big targets drawing coverage and an improved OL I could see it
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

What I like about camp this year is that I'm not hearing about it being a one sided affair like past years. Usually the defense is dominating our offense causing us to believe the defense will be fierce. Some years it was the offense smacking the defense around creating the belief that the offense would be top ten. This year I'm seeing that they are just making plays against one another. That is a great feeling. The good teams make plays through the flow of the game regardless of player position or down and distance.
This is my take on this year camp so far. I still don't think we will go to the playoffs but there is no doubt in my mind this team will compete and win quite a few ball games this year.
Sounds to me like Woz,Linder,Parnell are looking good with beadles doing better but Joekel is just inconsistent
Quote:It seems that every time I hear about a good offensive play it involves Hurns, I wouldnt be suprised if him and Robinson broke 1k yards this year. There is no chance of that happening. We just picked up J Thomas and plan to emphasize the TEs and Running Game more. I'd say 1600 yards combined for Robinson & Hurns would be good production. That would represent ~30% of the anticipated offense assuming we can increase our yardage by 750 from last years 4,650 to 5,400 Quote:Sounds to me like Woz,Linder,Parnell are looking good with beadles doing better but Joekel is just inconsistent We need to see them in a preseason game at least to see what we have. I wouldn't put too much stock in "Joeckel got beat by blah blah blah in training camp." Just like I wouldn't put much stock in "Joeckel really looking GREAT in training camp thus far." It means very little. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Dime? Yeah, about the closest formation I can think of. I couldn't tell if there were two DEs or one DE with a in the box safety. It looked odd for sure. ![]() Quote:We need to see them in a preseason game at least to see what we have. We've seen this before, then when the games start practice stars disappear and in vice versa the same for players not getting the praise.
The were lining Alualu up at FB today. That's interesting
