Tom Brady suspension to be upheld

That's been the issue all along, no matter what we believe happened.

They've made no case to implicate Brady.

Believe him or not, his explanations are plausible.  He gave them all his contacts, and yet the NFL chose not to pursue a single one of them.

There's still holes and/or lies in his statements. For example, he said that ball inflation never concerned him, yet he was caught stating in 2005 that he would lose sleep some nights over how each team would choose to inflate their footballs. This was before he him self along with others appealed the NFL to change the rule which they did. One lie.

I'm not saying he did do wrong; I think there's reasonab doubt; but there's inconsistencies with his statements, then you have his long phone calls to the ball boys, then the patriots firing the ball boys (if there was no cheating involved why fire two men and make them lose their livelihood), etc that by destroying his phone Brady played into those holes and that to me why it looks bad. The punishment is more for his behavior after then for the infraction itself, which in itself again is not proven imo.

I don't think the judge should overturn this because it sets a dangerous precedent; as unfair as it seems, it will say to other unions, "don't worry about that CBA you signed; you can get out of it when you cry foul". They signed it and agreed to give Goodell the powers of judge, jury, and executioner. Live with it. Life isn't fair. He's getting paid millions, so I have no sympathy

I have no sympathy, either.

I just care about what's just.

If you *think* something happened but can't actually prove it... sorry.  It hasn't been proven and you can't say otherwise.

In a previous life, I was in the position to prosecute shoplifters.  My record was perfect - 100% success rate.  Why?  I never stopped anyone I wasn't sure I had certain proof of pilferage.

I'd also like to add... I love the fact the judge is pointing out how ridiculous the entire situation is.  The NFL should be embarrassed by the amount of wasted time, money, and effort on what truly is just one big Goodell ego trip.

You yourself said its ridiculous so I don't think "just" doesn't really matter. He doesn't get paid to play a game for four weeks. This isn't a case of someone going to prison, being on probation, etc.

As far as a power trip, I can agree to that in the sense that there is plenty of room for reasonable doubt. But again, they signed it. When you give someone that much authority, there's bound to be issues. But as unfair as it is, they can't keep running to the courts every time they dislike a decision by Goodell, regardless of what it is. It seems they've been doing that with every decision lately (see Adrian Peterson and ray rice). I'd be irked if I were the judge as well. They signed a CBA for a reason; go with it

Sorry, just because they gave Goodell power doesn't mean he is allowed to do whatever or make up whatever he wants.

uh oh, not a sign of good things for Goodell if the Judge says this:

I would say I will be glad when this is over but I don't think I will like the end result.

I think there will be a patty-cake settlement of 1 game for not cooperating.  I don't think any opinions will be changed, but at least it'll be over.  Let's play ball.

As long as he sits out during the most visible regular season game of the year (Thursday Night Kickoff), I'll be happy.

We're not beating the Pats this year, with or without Brady

Judge in 'Deflategate' says Tom Brady suspension in jeopardy

NEW YORK –  Tom Brady might have reason to practice more intensely after a federal judge made clear Wednesday that the NFL's four-game suspension of the New England Patriots quarterback over "Deflategate" is in jeopardy.

U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman, who's been asked by NFL Players Association to void the suspension, warned a league lawyer during oral arguments that there was precedent for judges to toss out penalties issued by arbitrators in the scandal over underinflated footballs.

You've been very uplifting lately.  I know I know, you're a "realist."

Without Brady, we have a very good chance of beating the Patriots.  If he doesn't play, they aren't very good.

So basically, it's come to this.

Judge will throw out the punishment completely unless there's a "compromise."

NFL continues to be inflexible and insist he admit to something not proven, and they will lose everything.

The hubris.  The hubris.  #ApocalypseGoodell

There's a reason both sides aren't willing to concede.  They think they are right and there is a good chance the decision would lean their way.  I still think he gets a two game suspension (or more) by the time this is all said and done.

The inflexibility of the NFL in this will wind up costing the commissioner his job.  If the goal is always to protect the shield, he's doing a lousy job right now.

I disagree.  He's got the support of 31 other owners in taking this firm stand.

The ESPN Legal Rep stated the CBA is written in such a way that (By Law) the Judge cannot rule in favor of Brady.  As a result, the Judge is attempting to put pressure on the NFL to reduce their current position to all in line what the Judge believes is justified.

It's like signing a bad contract that stands in the court of law.

If this starts to have a negative impact on the shield, watch how quickly that support evaporates.

So not much of a leap at all. Just lol at this poverty judge thinking he knows what quantum means.

Protecting the shield is the goal only when the camera's are rolling.  Behind closed doors, it's all about making money.

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.
