10 Olineman?
|
Last night, while listening to Lageman on the radio, I got the distinct impression that the numbers game at the Oline position may force the Jags to make some decisions. First off both Lageman and Boselli said they thought that Bowanko is leading at the OC position over Wiz. Then Lageman suggested that Wiz might be in play at the OLG position and thus Beadles might be in jeopardy of not starting. Lageman is a big fan of Tyler Shatley and feels that there is no way he does not make the final roster. Both Lageman and Boselli seem to suggest that A.J. Cann is not ready to take the OLG position from Beadles. So, if the Jags keep 10 Olineman, then here are those 10 Players: Joeckel, Beadles, Bowanko, Wisniewski, Linder, Parnell, Cann, Wells, Shatley, Pasztor.
So will the Jags keep 10 Olineman or might they try to trade Zane Beadles if they feel that Wiz can start there. I think the team might very well keep the 10 Olineman and perhaps try Wiz at OLG. If the experiment works, the team might attempt to trade Beadles early in the season. The numbers game on this roster is certainly going to be interesting. If you have that kind of o-line depth, why deplete it for the sake of numbers?.. you have youth you expect to take over starting spots in addition to veteran presence .. I'm not a fan of cutting/trading quality for uniformity in position numbers in most cases. I'm in the line of thinking of keeping the top 53 guys .. that being said, Isn't Shatley PS eligible?
It sounds like they want as many as 6 WRs, 5 RBs and 4 or even 5 TEs. With so many offensive skill players, it sounds like they'll only be keeping 9 OLs.
Perhaps the plan is to stash Shatley on the PS as he's most definitely eligible.

It has been suggested that Shatley was kept on the 53 man roster last year because a number of teams were interested in signing him once he was cut. The Jags wanted to keep him and thus had to keep a roster spot open for him. Lageman loves this guy and says no way he does not make the roster.
I think the big issue will be at TE. I think the Jags will keep 5 WRs and perhaps 5 TEs, but keeping that extra Olineman may cost them a TE spot.
5 WRs: Robinson, Hurns, Lee, Greene and Benn. 4 TEs: Thomas, Lewis, Harbor and ?? between Jacobs and Koyack. I like Koyack over Jacobs, but Jacobs is a big inline blocking TE. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
No way Shatley makes it to the PS. If they keep 9 then I think it comes down to Pasztor or Wells.
Shatley will go mystery IR before he goes PS.
He will be signed by someone else if he gets to PS.

Quote: Beadles is set to make the following: 2016: $5m 2017: $5.5m 2018: $5.5m I want you as my GM. Within a 34 minute period last night (8:30pm & 9:04pm) you're coming up with Cyprien for Kam Chancellor and dumping Beadle's contract and getting some value in return. I guess if we got a 6th rounder (Bowanko) for Gabbert, anything can happen. Keep hitting us with your ideas !! Just curious -- did you hit happy hour yesterday?
I love that we are having issues with too many players to cut. Its not as easy as it has been in the past. Still not perfect by anymeans but hey its improvement.
If Wiz takes Beadles' job and Cann shows that he's ready to become the future at that position, Beadles would most certainly be in danger.
Shatley made the roster last season because the Jaguars believed that he would be claimed on waivers if they released him. If they still love him and feel the same way, he'll stick. If they feel like they can slide him through this year, he might be the guy to hit the PS. Wells is certainly not safe. Parnell could slide over to the left side if something happened to Joeckel, and Pasztor has proven to be a capable RT in the past. I believe he was also the top backup at LT for a while, although that was because Cam Bradfield was starting due to injuries and the team really didn't have a choice, but it shows that he could presumably step in there in an emergency. Wells has PS eligibility, and could end up there. Here's an intriguing possibility, and one that would certainly fall into the "surprise cut" category. I believe I've read somewhere about Shatley taking reps at center here and there. The Jags' official depth chart doesn't list him there, but Ourlads (which I've found to be pretty reliable over the years) has him as the #3 player at that position. Right now, Wiz is almost a lock for the roster because he's one of two players with any real experience at center, but what if Shatley shows that he can handle the job? Now, let's say that Beadles holds off Cann and Wiz for the left guard job. Suddenly you're staring at the prospect of having to cut either Cann, a high third-round pick who the team thinks very highly of and would not clear waivers, or Wiz, a veteran with a messed-up shoulder that saw virtually no play in free agency. If Bowanko wins the center job, Shatley shows that he can play backup there and Beadles wins the left guard job, is it possible that Wiz could be released? Success is a journey, not a destination. Go all out Mighty Jaguars.
Although I remember shatley being the talk of the town when he made the final roster (because people thought he would get picked up), I just don't get why..
Was he really impressive in last year's preseason? I just kinda assumed he wasn't that great because guys like Brewster and McClendon were playing on that line. How did he do in the Steelers game? Honestly I don't remember seeing him. I guess I just don't know where all this interest is coming from for a guy like Shatley.

I think we will flip one of: Beadles, Pasztor, Wells, Shatley for a draft pick.
Keeping 10 linemen just seems to be going overboard, but I would prefer it to letting talented big men walk. Quote:I think we will flip one of: Beadles, Pasztor, Wells, Shatley for a draft pick.Beadles' contract would make him hard to trade. Pasztor is coming off an injury-riddled down year, and may not have any trade value as a result. Wells' and Shatley's ceilings are probably a conditional seven from a team low in the waiver order. Unless the team has solid information that one or both guys would make it through waivers, I would expect one of Wells or Shatley (probably Wells) to be cut and stashed on the practice squad. "Mystery IR" (lol) is always a possibility. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

FWIW, Shatley was our highest graded offensive player vs. the Steelers, according to PFF. Quote:If Wiz takes Beadles' job and Cann shows that he's ready to become the future at that position, Beadles would most certainly be in danger. I don't see them waiving Wells or Wiz. Wells was active for 12 games last year making him no longer eligible for the PS.
