Wiz Wins Starting Job

I'd think Wells would be the odd man out.

Based on his offseason, from training camp to the preseason games, he's been outplayed by his competition. They've given him every opportunity to earn a roster spot even by allowing him to play different positions from what he's played the last 2 years. Upside will only carry you so far and by playing with the 3rd/4th team in Saturday night's game along with their new intent on cross training Bowanko instead the writing appears to be on the wall for him.

Quote:Wells is also 24 and appears to have even more promise as a LT.
I think the decision to play Bowanko at tackle speaks volumes about the coaching staff's confidence in Wells, Pasztor and Young.

I think it speaks more about Pasztor than the other two. Pasztor was supposed to be the swing G/T. It looks like they're preparing his replacement now.

Maybe, but don't forget that Bowanko is also the backup center. Having him be essentially the top backup for the entire line might be asking too much of him, especially given how late in camp the decision was made.

You don't think they're planning on shocking us all by keeping 8 OLs and 5 TEs???

No, no way! That'd be nuts! The only way they keep 8 OL would be if they intend to claim someone because Pasztor and Wells have both flamed out.

Quote:Well, at least it's settled. I was rooting for Bowanko, but if nothing else he's a terrific back up and sounds like they are making him a valuable back up at all positions.
I agree Bowanko can be a versatile guy for us.

I am not sure how he would fare at LT.  I think he has the feet for it, but his arms don't strike me as being long enough to be a long term success at the position.  Also not sure about his frame.

But I do think he will be a key backup.  I also think we are way ahead of where we were at the position last year.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

I miss Mike Brewster

Why?  So you can show people how NOT to play C at the NFL level?

Starting lineup

Joeckel Beadles Wiz Linder Parnell

On deck: Cann

Solid depth: Bowanko, Pasztor

Developing: Shately

9 OL with JT80, Lewis, Harbor

9 OL, 3 TE, 5 WR, 5 RB, 2 QB. Leaves 26 left for defense and P/K/LS.

I think they keep Koyack and trim the running backs to 4.

So who are the four RBs?  Specifically who is the 4th RB?  Pierce?  Grant?

That's a tough call to me.

Pierce provides experience and possibly an advantage in pass protection.

grant offers speed and special teams ability.

I figured that had to be the case.

Just typing the word "shotgun" in association with this part of the thread gives me the heeby jeebies!

Brewster's shotgun snaps certainly had all the accuracy of birdshot from 100 yards.

Quote:Wiz won because he's got a prove it contract, tbh
Somewhat True but as I re-watched the Giants game, the OL was on point w/Wiz at the center position. D. Rob benefited to the point of darn near running over defenders. The run game is showing up BIG TIME. Wiz has that veteran presence that Bowanko lacks to this point...

Wiz is the Now and Bowanko is the Later...

To me, the effort to have Bowanko prepare for additional positions on the OL is nothing more than knowing that he'll be the next man up in the event of an sustained injury  to anyone before him.
