Scobee or Myers?

Quote:Wow. A guy in his first NFL training camp is among the best in the game. Wow.

I take it you missed the phrase "appears to be."

Quote:In 2014 he played in the Arena League for the San Jose Sabercats, and might still be in the Arena League having already signed a contract with the Arizona Rattlers had the Jaguars not signed him. I tried to find some stats for him, but was only able to verify that he played for the Sabercats. Nick Pertuit was the Sabercats' primary kicker in 2014.
Translation: he didn't make the team out of camp. AFL teams don't carry two kickers.

AFL goals are much more narrow so I'm sure these NFL goal post make it much easier than what Myers is used too

I'm not sure what happened there. I see he was assigned to their roster in March and is in the league's database as a player for them, but if you look up their 2014 roster he's not on it. A later article suggests he was "reassigned" I'm guessing to a different position, and then didn't make the roster at that position. But check this out...

This is the kicker ranking from a pro camp, and they have Meyers listed as #1 with a 5-star rating. The Sabercats Kicker is on there as well, but he's listed at #17...

Nich has also been kicking in the AFL since 2011 consistently maintaining a FG accuracy around 90 percent.

From that pro camp site, there's a quip about Myers...

What the coaches have to say:

"Jason has a good strong pop on his kicks. His form is smooth and under control. Very quiet upper body, which is great. Gets great height on field goals and can kickoff deep with excellent hang time. Can compete for a roster spot. Can punt as well."

It's interesting how they keep stats at the pro camp. Myers was 24 of 30 on FGs (80%) albeit with no pass rush. On KOs he averaged right around 4 seconds hangtime with the ball landing about 3 yards deep into end zone. There were three camps between January of this year and July of this year that these stats came from. He was 17 of 20 (85%) in the last two.

Quote:As of right now I would go with Scobee, but there are still 2 pre season games left and college stats has nothing to do with picking who wins the job

Totally agree with you.

As things stand I think Bradley, due to being in somewhat of a prove it year, needs to go with the more reliable kicker in Scobee.

I agree also. Gus needs to win to keep his job

Myers was signed simply as an extra leg, not to actually compete. The problem of course, he has.

I have no doubt that Gus cares about the future of the team but "this year" he has to win enough or he won't be part of it.

Myers has been kicking for a job with another team the moment he was signed
