Y'all are so spoiled. Bortles got sacked 55 times last year, that's more than three a game. Luke gave up a sack the first game, and none since. Give it a rest.

Luke has played about the total of 1 game so far.

1 sack allowed, 1 holding penalty (which wasn't a hold IMO), and he allowed multiple pressures on Bortles.

That's not a great "stat line" for 4 quarters of football.  If that was his average, he would probably be ranked as the worst starting LT in football.

So lets not start this "he hasn't been that bad" crap.

Bortles is getting protected. That's what matters. I honestly could care less if Luke gets bulldozed to the ground every passing snap, so long as Blake doesn't get sacked.

And I will counter your outrageous extrapolation with one of my own: the first game he gave up a sack, the second a hold, this game a bull rush. So using the logic of this board I will predict that he will be unremarkable next week and then slowly start an upward trend.

Or just go full circle and have those things happen once again...I'm sorry, but the dude deserves the criticism because where he was drafted.

He's like the Blaine Gabbert of LTs

this isn't a new thing for us.  Luke was bad last year as well, and needed a major improvement in his play this year.  So far in this preseason, he has shown no improvement in his weaknesses (power, technique, pass pro... he's always been a decent run blocker).

Bortles is getting protected?  Like I said, in one total game, he had a sack from the blind side that resulted in a fumble, and in this game his own tackle was bull rushed into his knees.  That can't be happening at this alarming frequency.

Luckily for us, Bortles has good pocket presence and can actually avoid a rush.  He's making the offensive line look better than they really are.

Bortles is saving Luke's [BLEEP] right now.  Imagine if Henne were in there.

I don't even care where he was drafted.  The LT position will need an upgrade next offseason, unless Luke improves drastically over this season.

Agreed.  Anyone watching the frequency with which Luke is beat and thinking this is acceptable is related to the guy.

I re-watched the game this morning, focusing on a few players and one of them was  Joeckel.  I have been giving him the benefit of the doubt because last year in some ways he was still a rookie.  There are times when he plays decently, but he's got to bring more consistency.  You can't have a game where you have two good plays for every one where you get beat so bad you look silly.   By the way, he got away with a couple of holding penalties or it would have been worse.  One was so flagrant it was almost like he gave up on the play.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Worst part is we traded away Eugene Monroe and drafted him when we coulda kept Monroe and used the top-5 pick somewhere else...

I think Dan Fouts pointed that out as well...It's like he can't handle the job he was given.  I hope it changes because help is not on the way.

Blake awareness can only save himself so much. Jokel is not going to improve. We need more competition there for sure . Or grind it out till next draft.

Quote:Just saying... An elite athlete who has worked out his entire life gaining 20 pounds of pure muscle in the first 2 months of the offseason is implausible, at best.

Lots of Koolaid being sucked down with that statement this offseason.

He weighed around his current weight at A&M and during his rookie season. Last season he was playing under 300lbs because of his rehab from the leg injury. The offseason weight gain isn't new muscle as much as it is regaining his old muscle.
