Name ten bands you listen to..

Quote:I can't really list 10 artists that I listen to, because my listening habits these days are based on 20 or so Pandora channels I shuffle play. Here are 10 of those...

Steve Earle

Alison Krauss

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Bob Marley

Pink Floyd

The Allman Brothers Band

Alanis Morissette

John Prine

Sly and the Family Stone

Johnny Cash

Toss in the generic Alternative channel and I end up with a mix of Americana, southern rock, 70s/80s alternative rock, funk, alternative country, blugrass and reggae.

When I was in my 20s/30s I worked with a guy who used to play with a group that opened for Sly and the Family Stone, on occasion.  He had gotten out of the industry because he had a crooked manager that had pretty much swindled them out of all of their money.  I met him/worked with him in, of all places, the computer room of a major company on third shift.  I still talk with him on occasion.  I was thinking about him the other day because, after souring on the business for so long, Daryl Dawkins got him back into it and helped back him.  Guy's name was Gene Robinson and his group was Breakwater (and I believe they are again).  He's the singer and also plays trumpet.

Nice story, I remember Breakwater. I love 60s/70s era funk and R&B. One set I would have loved to catch was Sly and the Family Stone at Woodstock. From all accounts that performance introduced funk to a whole new generation.

Gene was/is a good guy.  We also played a good deal of basketball, bowling, and golf together (and burned a more than occasional doob).

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Misspelling Freddie Mercury's name is one of my pet peeves.

I gotta disagree with you on Foo Fighters. I can't believe I left them out but out of respect for you I'll leave my list unedited.
