Fear The Walking Dead Season One (caution: spoilers)

Quote:For everything they've impressed me with, they've let me down at the next turn.

I love the drug addict angle.  It drives the story well.  However, while I understand a family being protective of as son... it falls flat with me that they feel competent/capable/bold enough to conduct their own little CSI investigation of the drug den.  Quite a stretch.  Broke my personal threshold for "suspension of disbelief," as I didn't believe they would actually do that on their own, nor would many if any parents I know.

I could see the stepfather going as a way to try to understand what Nick was saying. It shows he believed Nick to a degree and I think since he can't be a father to his own kid, maybe he can try to help Nick. The mom..... I don't know. I'm not a maternal person so I would have gone out of curiosity since that's the kind of person I am.

I also thought the mom's "got my flu shot" line was nice, but they could have gone deeper with that to make a stronger impact.  One that could be developed further into the coming hysteria over what could be causing the upcoming outbreak.  Rather than a glib one liner, they could have had a bigger scene where the nurse/doc was discussing the current strain they were vaccinating against, and how they are confident it will be more effective than those years past and why, etc, etc...

I agree. I think they're trying too hard to not try too hard. They don't want to overdo stuff so they leave things hanging.

I was also suspect of how quickly the couple was to accept having to "murder" the "walker."  The pace of their escalation seemed rushed, and left me feel they were behaving more like outlaws than heroes.  I got the feeling their morality/drive was more about sheltering/enabling the son than doing what's right.  I would think that in that situation (in the universe where no one knows what's going on yet,) they would still be more interested in getting help for the "walker" than destroying it.

We may see the fall out of how they feel about what happened with the walker in the next episode. They were most likely in shock. And they were also protecting Nick from what he'd just done. An addict doesn't need a reason to use and he just went through some serious trauma so......

I really liked the young Johnny Depp lookalike. Aside from him though the rest of the cast are not really that interesting. I don't think any of them will be able to give that sense of [BAD WORD REMOVED] like Rick can.

I'm thinking there are more characters coming that may fit that bill.

From the trailers from upcoming episodes, that could be Ruben Blades character.

That would have been awesome.

I have not had cable since after they were in the CDC I think? Is the walking dead still a great show? Worth catching up on and I assume not needed for this since it's a prequel?

Rick's character turned [BAD WORD REMOVED] over time though as did Carol and the rest. The first season Rick was a bit benign and Shane was the psycho. Now Rick is Shane. Remember when Rick just wanted to farm at the prison? These peeps don't even know what they're dealing with yet, give them time to figure out how to shoot a gun between the eyes. The bad [BLEEP] will reveal themselves.

True. Carol is one of my favorite characters and I would have never expected her to be as cool as she is now.

Rock on! I've noticed a lot of the dudes on twitter hate her and I wonder why that is. I like her a lot too, even though she's a time bomb! Smile

Great show?  Depends on who you ask, It's ok imo, but it has it's moments.

I think the CDC was season 1 so with that said:

Season 2 was pretty good in parts

Season 3 was terrible imo

Season 4 I skipped based on how bad season 3 was and a certain character still being milked

Season 5 had moments in the first half, but a lot of pointless, uninteresting moments revolving around a certain character, the latter half of season 5 was pretty good though, probably the most interesting it's been since Season 2 for me.

All the seasons are on netflix, if you enjoyed the first season it'll likely keep you entertained for the most part.  Also yeah you don't need to watch it at all for FTWD, different story, different time, on the opposite side of the country, they'll probably throw in some easter eggs but other than that I doubt there will be much overlap.

The level of production and acting for TWD is the best I've seen in a show. I've never been so attached to characters and you can feel the emotion when anything happens. With that being said, if Rick or Daryl end up dying, I probably won't be able to watch anymore. FTWD just doesn't look or feel the same as the original series, anyone notice that? I think they did that on purpose and had a low budget for it. It is a mini-series afterall. The young kid that acts like Johnny Depp is awesome though, hopefully he lives and somehow ends up in the regular show lol.

It lacked the tension of TWD. But the season preview/montage looks like that wont be an issue going forward.

I thought it was kinda goofy she was all for getting her daughter away from her sick boyfriend, but wanted to give the growling "principal" (?) a hug when he came in the room resident evil style.

I think she was pretending, since she lied to that boy about having not seen one before.  I almost thought for a moment she was going to kill the boy, and take the food for herself.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Was a really slow episode tonight. Didn't care for it too much, but it'll get better more than likely. I feel like they aren't showing enough details of the out-break or people turning. They showed a group of 30 people flip a car over... Quick! Nuke the city!

No complaints from me this week.  I like the way it's trending.

I feel like in a month they'll be just about where the original show was in the first season. I'm wondering if we'll then have two shows that are just basically the same thing.

What would be cool though is if the two shows end up merging into one in a season or so. The GA crew meets the LA crew and make one big group! I think that would be fun.

I hope that paranoid kid from the HS makes it.  He was pretty wimpy trying to take out the principal walker.
